Finished 2/5/2024. 3 Stars

This book was cute, but nothing special. At times it was funny and at times the characters annoyed me. I really didn't care for the ending, but it seems to be setting itself up for future stories. I loved the setting and would love to visit the islands of Scotland.

With Love, Mr Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Valentine Short Story Collection Anthology (4 stars)

I didn't mind it. I'm not a big fan of such short novellas but a couple of them were cute.

Charmeon Simpkins-Thomas (thepurplelibrarylady) | 2 comments The True Love Experiment by Christine Lauren was my February pick. It was a cute romantic comedy that I could see being made into a movie. It was a light, easy read perfect for Valentine's Day 💜

I have never come across this series before. I am going to have to look it up!

Jennifer | 55 comments A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott I was intrigued to come across this book by Alcott that I had not heard of previously. It was written prior to her most well-known book, Little Women, but was considered too controversial to be published in her lifetime. The manuscript languished in her papers for over 100 years before being found and published!

18-year-old Rosamond has grown up on an isolated island with her grandfather, a cantankerous man who has never shown any love or affection. She feels like a caged bird and the novel opens with her declaration that she would gladly sell her soul to Satan for a year of freedom. Soon after a guest, Philip Tempest, arrives to visit Rosamond's grandfather. Rosamond is thrilled for the distraction and becomes enamoured of Tempest who, in turn, is captivated by her. Tempest ends up remaining a month before enticing Rosamond to leave with him so they may marry.

It does not take long for Tempest's true nature to reveal itself to Rosamond and she feels she has no alternative but to flee. Thus begins a long fatal love chase that spans Europe and lasts for several years.

Filled with many twists and turns, the novel is an easy read with themes that resonate today. It has a feel of the gothic novel. 3* A Long Fatal Love Chase

To Love and Cherish: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Paisley James (4 stars). This is the second part of a duology. It can kind of be read independently but it helps if you read the first one to know some of the events in the first book they reference.
