Gabrielle Prendergast | 3 comments I'm writing a middle grade book about a 10 yr old bookworm and she refers to several books as the source of advanced words (Anne of Green Gables for example) she uses. I would like to find a source for the word "fervent". Can anyone think of any children's or middle grade novel wherein it appears? It's probably in Anne of Green Gables but I don't want to use that twice.

Another word is "disgruntled" if you can think of a book in which that is used.

THANK YOU!!!

It's in Little Women, so I might use that. But I'd still welcome other suggestions.

Pamela Love | 1510 comments The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books often used "advanced words" (one per chapter, IIRC) like these. I did a little searching and (while I'm not positive) fervent may appear in The Whispering Statue (Nancy Drew) and disgruntled may appear in While the Clock Ticked (Hardy Boys)

Have you tried using Googlebooks advanced search - you can limit by word(s) and pub year.

It IS is the Hardy Boys book! Thank you! That's so helpful!

Pamela Love | 1510 comments You're welcome. Found another one (well, "fervently") in the chapter "Saturday Four" of The Saturdays by Elizabeth Enright. The Saturdays

Her soul could not get enough of the beautiful homecoming, and she said fervent thanks to God for allowing her to return home.
