Susanne | 102 comments Best - Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. Despite the darkness of the story and the bad reviews from some people, I couldn't read it fast enough!
Worst - Beneath the surface by Trey Everett. The premise looked great but the husband was weak and the wife so self centered and paranoid it was just annoying. Got to about 40% and gave up!

Joanna Maria (booksbarbellsbiblestudies) | 3 comments Worst was definitely Icebreaker and I can’t choose best I’ve read so many good ones 😭

message 22: by LiteraryCryptid (new)

LiteraryCryptid | 60 comments Worst: Shadow and Bone (yes controversial but I shall explain). I had to DNF this book because I found it so whiny. Normally I love teen fantasy, and the world-building has spectacular promise, but when you spend the first 2 almost 3 chapters moping about how much attention your friend is giving everyone else and not you, I'm out. I had such high hopes starting it (my partner binge-read the entire series and loves it), I found it overhyped and a flop. That being said - I still recommend it at work for teens interested in fantasy since it is definitely geared toward that age of reader, and I know plenty of people who swear by it. - Just not for me.

Best: Tie -
Legends And Lattes - A cozy fantasy book that is perfect even if you don't like fantasy. World-building is the right about for the plot, and the characters are so adorable. Described best as a book with the vibes of a cup of hot chocolate on a cold snowy day. Warm, comforting, and soothing.

Yellowface - This book made me rethink everything about how I sell books and why I recommend them. My copy has annotations out the wazoo and is very well loved for being less than a year old. Definitely on my re-read list for next year.

message 23: by Tanja (new)

Tanja | 315 comments The frugal wizards handbook for surviving medieval england by Brandon Sanderson was such a nope. 1 star.
The best book so far was the Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

message 24: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 2 comments I loved Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and I hated You Shouldn't Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose. I think thats her name.

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan Stimmel (suzestimmel) | 29 comments If you guys like The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo you might like More than You will Ever Know by Katie Gutierrez...both stories intrigued me and include a strong female character. One is a romantic tell-all and the other is a confession/thriller. For 2023 those were two of my favorites. I did really like Riley Sager's latest The Only One Left but I like all of his books...there are no faves for me when it comes to him. I don't know if there were any titles I hated?? I make sure to read reviews before I consider reading a book. There was only time I tried to read a friend's recommendation and it was Where the Crawdad's Sing. I didn't like it. So that would be my 'hated' book I guess. I can't remember if I tried to read that in 2023 or 2022 though.
