Hey team Vamps! I'm so excited to be playing Uno with all of you! I don't recognize many names here, so I have sent friend requests to those of you I don't know. It makes it easier to verify books once the reading really gets started!

Let's get to know each other. Please introduce yourself and post a link to your Uno shelf. I'm Laura. I live in North Carolina with 5 of my kids. My oldest daughter stayed in California with my mom when we all moved out here last year. I have way too many cats, but I'm getting my old lady cat collection started a little early.

I'll read just about anything for a challenge, although horror is a hard limit for me. My favorites are Fantasy (including UF and PNR), Science Fiction, and Contemporary.

Who has played before, and who is new to Uno? I have played every year and love this annual challenge! A little bit about how I play: As you guys finish books, I will be placing them on the spreadsheet. I will do this by starting with color cards and Wild Draw 4s. If your book doesn't fit there, I will move on to placing it on one of the difficult numbers (5, 7, 8 and sometimes 9). If it doesn't fit one of those numbers, I'll place it where ever else it fits, starting at the top of our hands and moving down. Because of this, our hands might look spotty for the first week or 2. But then once hands start being finished, they will fill up pretty fast.

Some captains use a planning spreadsheet, but I'm one of the ones that prefers not to. When you finish a book, please post it here, and put what cards it works for. This is a generally good system, but if it breaks down on us, we can always add one later.

In my reserved posts (5-7) I will update about Color cards and when we have a mini-challenge I will update that there as well.

It's always helpful to start with planning out our color cards. Post what you've got here! I have:

My name is CIndy and I live in Colorado with my husband and 2 year old daughter. I have another girl on the way due 2/20/24. I work in a hospital pharmacy. I think this is my fifth year playing uno. This was the first challenge I ever did and I've been hooked since then. I don't plan my books ahead of time except when I claim a color card

I live in Maryland (though a midwesterner at heart!) with my two cats. This is my 8th year of playing Uno. It is one of my favorite challenges, especially with a chatty team :-)

I don't really have a favorite genre, but I do tend to gravitate towards historical fiction and fantasy (which shocked me, lol).

I am cool with what helps our captains with placing books on the spreadsheet - I've done both and have no preference!

As much as I like to plan ahead (life in general, lol), I have to rely on what my library has available to download.

Congratulations Cindy! I've spent a few vacations in Colorado. Your state is gorgeous! Uno was also my introduction to team challenges. Now I do way too many of them! But Uno is my favorite because it's laid back, and just enough competitive.

Which 2 of these books do you most want to read? I'll start you off with 2 planned and we'll see what others post.

ETA: Your Blue book also works for the Blue 7, which is going to be the most difficult to find. So we'll probably end up putting it there. And that's such a good series, by the way!

And your Green book looks like it also works for a Skip. Her ex is named Karl, and a quick search using Google Books looks like he shows up briefly in the book.

I can read those two for sure and then the red and yellow I can read if needed. All of those books are available to me and all of them except the green one are part of series that I'm working on. I told myself that I want to finish a lot of series that I've started and never finished but sometimes it gets hard with doing so many challenges and them not fitting so it just gets pushed back until later lol

I've been playing UNO since 2016 I think and I love it.
I read almost everything fiction, but I love historical fiction an fantasy the most.

I don't think we've done Turf Wars together. I've stayed with the same team during all the TW games. I do enjoy TW, although that 6 month one at the start of last year had me so sick of reading from lists!

I don't know why I love Uno so much. I actually hate cover color tasks. And Yellow is the worst!

That being said, we have a Yellow 5 this month. I believe that will be our hardest one to find, since we've already covered the Blue 7. Anyone have any possibilities? Even if it's something you don't want to read or have read before and aren't interested in re-reading, please post here for suggestions.

I was looking at my Historical Romance authors because you often get good color covers there but I forgot that some Contemporary Romance author have some good color covers in the last year or two.

Bridgerton may be a little overdone with all the new covers/editions because of the Netflix series, but have you tried any other Julia Quinn? I especially lover her Smith/Smythe Quartet Just Like Heaven. I also like Lisa Kleypas' Wallflowers series Secrets of a Summer Night, and her Hathaway series Mine Till Midnight.

These two both bring the romance, but if you like a mystery, Her Royal Spyness is a really fun series. And A Curious Beginning, the Veronica Speedwell series is great!

The consensus in the Captains' Group is that this one doesn't have enough blue to make up 50%. It's really close, but just not enough. But like Paula said, we can use it for a Reverse, or a 5 if you still plan to read it.

Puck Yes for sure! And I'm going to ask about Sex, Lies, & Sweet Tea in the Captain's Group, just in case they think the background is too light and leans more toward white than yellow.

The captains say yes to your Yellow.

Have I mentioned that I hate color tasks and I suck at judging them?

If you enjoy Puck Yes, I recommend Pucking Around. It's another Why Choose/Reverse Harem hockey romance!

Ah. That’s not a list from Listopia. That is a list generated by all the books that are tagged/shelved blue by anyone. So it might not even have been a Uno person. We started using those about 5 years ago, but with the caveat that it still might not work. There is another edition that looks like it might work.

Great! Have you read A Court of Thorns and Roses before? It's one of my favorites and I re-listen frequently! I actually put you down for a Red Four (MC Feyre) instead of the Skip. Setting gets tricky, because they want us to be as specific as possible. So a book set in London doesn't work for 8 (England). So I just try to avoid using setting as much as possible!
