- Cover was space with a ship? Mainly deep blue?
- Two central human characters plus the ship (one was maybe Betty?) both humans female
- Was in city of Perth library at least at one point
- Plot was something like:

Alien-made sentient bio ships make deal with earth to get pilots for ships to go on voyage and either return or continue on; the “continuing on” is fighting a war against grey goo or tyranid-style aliens (the war being kept secret to keep getting willing volunteers)
Ending of (maybe first) book was the discovery of the hostile aliens on a derelict bio-ship

When did you read the book?

Do you think it was written recently or it was old?

While I'm kind of familiar with the term, what exactly means tyranid here? Insect-like?

Genesistrine | 575 comments The brainships in The Ship Who Sang and its sequels aren't alien-made bioships though; they're humans who were put into life-support cyborg "shells" as babies due to severe congenital disabilities.

MJ | 1617 comments Probably not, but The Archangel Project eventually ends up with sentient alien ships that start helping humans/others with a war against ‘the dark’. A sentient infection that hiveminds victims.

The ship shows up in book 5. Darkness rising.
