Sydney | 1 comments The plot is about a character who enters a different world. She meets four kids who help her return back to her original world. The main character learns that they are actually kids in different paintings. One of the four kids was a girl from a side profile painting, maybe Italian from the 1500s. The other girl was from a impressionist-looking painting wearing a white fancy dress and in a flower garden. I have not read this story in over 10 years. It was a short story that was a part of an anthology. I do not remember the title.

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments That sounds really interesting! Do you remember, did she also enter the different world through a painting? It may be worth checking out these lists (if you haven't already!):

Billee | 26 comments This sounds like 'Aunt Charlotte and the NGA portraits' from Megan Whalen Turner's book 'Instead of Three Wishes'. Not sure how to link it.

Sarah (drsarah) | 176 comments Was it a young children's book? Could have been one of the 'Katie' books, but they're identifiably children's books (a few lines on a page that's mainly a picture).

Connie Romer | 1 comments I don't think it was from Megan Whalen's "Instead of Three Wishes". I found a Wiki that breaks down each short story in that specific anthology, and none of them sound like the story being described (which - btw - really does sound like a fun read...I hope somebody finds it!). Here is the Wiki page for Whalen's "Instead of Three Wishes" stories:
