Children’s elementary (possibly early elementary?) from the early to mid 90s about a kid/kids who make dinner for their dad

There was a part toward the end that my sister and I always thought was so funny about the dad chewing a bite of gravy. We still joke about it whenever someone makes gravy that is even the slightest bit lumpy! I cannot remember details about the title, illustrations, etc. just these kids that make dinner for their dad and it’s a disaster but he is a great sport about it.

Kinda reminds me of the kids making dinner in Ramona Quimby, Age 8, but it wasn't just for their dad.
