46 - A Book in Which a Character Sleeps for More Than 24 Hours

I'm reading Burying Water, in the first chapter it says the female lead is in a coma for 9 days (though be advised there's a brutal reason for that....). Also, the main male character is 24 years old if you need one for that prompt.
I'm seeing Paladin's Faith on the Listopia. Can someone confirm that it has someone asleep for more than 24 hours in it?

Thank you! I love that series and was going to use that one for the prompt. Which means I'll have read three Kingfisher books for the challenge, haha... (four if you count a book she wrote under her real name)
I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier, since it's one of my favorite books. In The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, a main character is unconscious for almost two weeks after taking a serious injury. Another goes into an extended sleep related to the magic system.
It's the first book in the Mistborn series.
Good news for Empyrean fans! I'm reading Iron Flame right now, and it turns out young dragons need to sleep for several months as part of their growth, so I anticipate Andarna sleeping for more than 24 hours and I am tentively penciling it in for this category. And at the end of Fourth Wing, a human is knocked out for several days after an injury.
Nadine in NY wrote: "Good news for Empyrean fans! I wish I liked it as much as Fourth Wing. But it does work for this prompt.
The Return of the King has a character wake up after some days asleep. This may also have happened in Fellowship of the Ring, but I don't remember the length of time exactly.
Dragon and Thief has a scene where a character is kept sedated for multiple days, so I would say it fits the prompt.
I was going to read Song of the Huntress for recommended by a Librarian but when they are not riding the wild hunt sleep under the Tor (for approx a month at a time I think) anyway, I'm counting it!
In The Girl Who Drank the Moon, she is put in a magical sleep for nine days, so I think that counts too!
Currently reading Who Fears Death, and a character goes through something traumatic and basically blacks out. When they come to, they get told it's two days later. Not sure whether I'm going to count this or not, though since it's really just a throwaway line, and it's trauma-induced, more than sleep. I may put it in with the plan to replace it later if I read a better example.
I read the Direction of the Wind by Mansi Shah....a couple of times the characters sleep more than a day sleeping off their drug use.

It never quite came together for me - I never felt like things were happening organically, just because it was the next thing the plot needed. However, I am interested enough in the world that I still plan to read The Book of Phoenix.
i read One for My Enemy for this one! since one of the characters is put in a coma for a couple of days! highly recommend it - it’s a witchy Romeo and Juliet written as a play

That's what I came to double-check! THANK YOU
Thanks to Laura's comment upthread, I read Problems. Sex, drugs but not much rock and roll. A stream of consciousness novella, with the circularity of addiction. Some very funny lines and good insights. I liked this more than I was expecting when I started. Relevance: the MC has two periods of sleeping for 24 hours - she does stir slightly, but not enough to bother me.
Warnings: sex and language explicit. Dope in the States = heroin. In the UK it's cannabis, which puzzled me for a while.

I read The Defector for this one. You wouldn't know it until you are done the book, but yes, a character does sleep for over 24 hours :)

I'm in Canada, and dope is a Gen X term for pot.

For my generation (X) in my part of the US (NY/NJ), "dope" is just a generic term for any drug. Context clues are required to let you know which drug is being discussed.
But as an engineer, "dope" is pipe dope, a soft, almost Play Doh type of material you can put on pipe threads in lieu of teflon tape to help the joint seal better. Apparently it is from the Dutch word "doop" for "thick sauce."

I have my book for this already, but I'm currently reading Kafka on the Shore, and a character sleeps for about 34 hours. The book specifically says "Hoshino added up the hours. The old man had been sleeping for over twenty-four hours", so it's a clear fit!Edited to add - he does this a few times.
A book I was reading for another prompt (takes place within 24 hours) turns out to also qualify for this prompt! After Dark by Haruki Murakami
I used When the Sleeper Wakes by H. G. Wells, but I have While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams on my shelf, so maybe I'll use that for the "redo of a 2024 prompt"' on the 2025 list.
