Ok so i read this book in elementary school, about 7 years ago. This book is about a boy whose mother marries a man shes only been dating for 3 months. I remember a specific scene where before the mom and boy move out to the mans new house, they were sitting and eating with their aunt who made pancakes for them. The man become abusive and abuses both the boy and his mother, there is a specific scene where he kicks the boy up the stairs. There is also a scene were the boy gets a job working at a store, which the abusive man robs and the boy knows its him. The news also comes to the house of the boy to ask him question and I remember that the mom and new man try to hide the inside of their house littered with beer bottles by standing in the doorway to block the view.

yes he becomes abusive as soon as the mother and son move into the new house

the setting is in america, not sure where specifically

It is pretty graphic so I would say teens to adult
