Thanks Emmy, I wasn't aware that there is a problem with combining/merging. I'll keep a look out for it.

Most of the time combining goes without problems and is effected within minutes. But I have had a few incidents during the past couple of weeks where combining simply failed to proceed and Experts did not succeed either. So a developers ticket was raised and is still open.

I also had incidental problems separating two editions from a main work in order to prepare a merge. Having ticked two selection boxes, only one edition gets singled out to a new work whereas the other one stays put. Recently I could do a second separation for the remaining edition and combine those two as yet for the merge, but I also had two issues where also one edition got separated but the other one stubbornly refused to be separated. I reported these to Support as well.

Staff has managed to solve this.
