THE ACKERLEY INHERITANCE is out in the world! This thread is for open discussion of any part of the novella, no spoiler warnings needed. If you've read Ackerley, do share your thoughts!

Also if you've read it, leaving an honest review (even just one sentence it doesn't have to be detailed) or a rating on any site is a huge help to getting the book noticed.

Petra | 98 comments I finished reading last night and enjoyed it! My favorite scene was at the party when they were stealing the papers back. Well acted by all!

There are so many recurring characters that I can't keep them straight in my head, but I just keep reading and trust that in the end it will all become clear. :)

Great to hear you enjoyed it! I really like the scene at the party where they are stealing the papers back - it's really fun when I can involve multiple characters in that sort of spy mission. Glad you can trust it will become clear - I try to give reminders when characters come back into the story.

Kimberly Thorpe | 237 comments I finished the book and love all the open ends you have left for future books. I think my favorite conversation of the evening was between Mandy and Sylvie. It exposed Sylvie's true pain about how her life turned out, but also that she wasn't brave enough to make other choices.

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments I finished, also, and must agree with Petra that it was quite confusing at first to recognize and understand how some of the new characters would fit into the story. I was just getting ready to go back to the previous book for some help, when one of your clues popped up. So I read on. I was interested in the number of missions going on at this musicale and finding out their results.

I was expecting more about the Argentine from the previous book. Might that be coming up jn the next release?

Thanks, Kim! Yes, lots of fodder for future books in this story. I think we learn a lot about Sylvie in this story (and she's quite important in the next novel). That scene sort of happened as I brought Mandy and Sylvie together. I was interested in how Mandy brought out a more vulnerable side of Sylvie than we've seen before.

Hi Betty! Yes, not sure if you read the teaser from THE O'ROARKE AFFAIR but the Argentine does come back in (and in fact it does play a role in THE ACKERLEY INHERITANCE with missing cache of weapons). By new characters do you mean the characters from recent books like Cressida and William an Danielle and Gresham? There aren't many completely new characters in the novella except the Bamfords and Rosalind.

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments Yes, new ones from the last book as well as the Bamfords and Rosalind. I did not read the teaser, but am interested in more about the Argentine, since I have no knowledge of that.

Thanks for bringing in more of Danielle's and Pierre's relationship. I don't remember Tristram.

Tristram Gresham was a character in Seven Dials Affair. Allegra (Roth's wife) ran off with him and sang in one of his operas. Danielle takes Mélanie to see him. Later we learn he has connections to French Radicals and Carbonari and that Allegra started spying for Hubert because he wanted information on Gresham. Writing him, I found him a character who talked onto the page and took over.

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments Thank you. That rings a bell. I've read your last few books as ebooks. When I have print books, I can easily turn back to clear up any confusion while reading. Not so with ebooks.

Oh that makes sense about ebooks - though I find being able to search the text in ebooks very helpful. If you aren't sure of a name you can search on it. Just a thought.

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments I'm not very familiar with any features that would allow me to easily maneuver an ebook. Mark me technology challenged. I will be seeing Danielle soon, so maybe she can teach me. Sigh.

Are you reading on a Nook still? On the Kindle app there's a search option easily available. I would get Nook has it too. Hopefully Danielle (or Julian?) can help. Tell the family hi from both of us!

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments Yes, I am, although I have a kindle. Just haven't learned to use it (duh, I know). Yes, I am sure Julian will be able to help. He is very savvy. I certainly will tell them. I will be there for quite a while. Don't know if I mentioned that Julian made the high school swim team. They practice first semester, then begin their meets. I want to see at least one. Danielle is recovering from a knee replacement Oct. 2nd.

How great about the swim team! Wonderful you'll be able to go to a meet! I hope Danielle recovers quickly. We helped my cousin after he had knee replacement surgery last year. He's doing great now, but there's definitely recovery time.

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments She's improving each week, but slower than she would like. I'll tell her about your cousin.

Hugs to her! It was slower than my cousin hoped too, but after the first couple of weeks it got much better. We just had Thanksgiving at his house and he was going up and down two flights of stairs and you'd never know he'd had surgery.

Betty Strohecker | 164 comments Thanks for the encouragement.
