Drace (dracenines) | 7522 comments Earlier this year I started a very long project thread to take care of numerous issues with the current UK editions of books written by the author J.G. Ballard. That thread has died, but in the months since then, I have been advised by librarians to break very long project threads up into individual books. As such, I will be letting the long Ballard thread lie dormant (as it has been for months) and begin creating one smaller project thread at a time to take care of the books that have issues that still need to be corrected.

4 out of 20 books have had their UK edition issues corrected in my older thread. This is book #5.

There are several issues that need to be taken care of with the current UK editions of Crash by J.G. Ballard.

1. UK Kindle Edition: Crash (ASIN B002RI9SII)

- This edition has been mistakenly assigned the cover art of an older American edition. The correct cover art is available here: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/8...

===

2. The Collector’s Edition Hardcover: Crash (ISBN 9780007378340)

- The page count is incorrect. The publisher’s website lists it as 400 pages.

- The title is listed on the website as Crash: The Collector's Edition. Unsure if “The Collector's Edition” should be included in the title of the book or not. I’ll leave that up to the librarians.

3. New Edition: Collector’s Edition Ebook

The Collector’s Edition ebook is missing from the site and needs to be added.

TITLE: Crash: The Collector's Edition
AUTHOR: J.G. Ballard
EDITOR: Chris Beckett
ISBN-10: 0008257310
ISBN-13: 9780008257316
ASIN: 0008257310
PUBLISHER: Fourth Estate
DATE PUBLISHED: April 6, 2017
NUMBER OF PAGES: 400
FORMAT: Ebook
EDITION: Collector’s Edition
DESCRIPTION:
A special limited edition of J. G. Ballard’s cult, post-modern and shocking novel

I knew that Vaughan could never really die in a car-crash, but would in some way be re-born through those twisted radiator grilles and cascading windshield glass.

The Collector’s Edition

A former TV scientist turned nightmare angel of the expressway, Robert Vaughan gathers around him a collection of alienated crash victims. Among them is James Ballard, our narrator, who is drawn into a series of erotic atrocities, each more sinister than the last. Vaughan craves the ultimate crash – a head on collision of blood, semen, engine coolant and iconic celebrity.

Alongside Ballard’s cult postmodern novel, this special edition, edited by Chris Beckett, includes never-before-seen reproductions of Ballard’s annotated manuscript pages, essays, stories and material that shine a new light on this modern masterpiece.

EDITION LANGUAGE: English

4. Digital Audiobook Edition: Crash (ISBN 9780007432752)

- The publisher is incorrect. According to the publisher’s website, it was published by Harper Perennial.

- The description is missing paragraph breaks. It should read as follows:

The definitive cult, post-modern novel - a shocking blend of violence, transgression, and eroticism. When our narrator smashes his car into another and watches a man die in front of him, his sense of sexual possibilities in the world around him becomes detached.

As he begins an affair with the dead man's wife, he finds himself drawn, with increasing intensity, to the mangled impacts of car crashes. Then he encounters Robert Vaughan, a former TV scientist turned nightmare angel of the expressway, who has gathered around him a collection of alienated crash victims and experiments with a series of erotic atrocities, each more sinister than the last. But Vaughan craves the ultimate crash: a head-on collision of blood, semen, engine coolant, and iconic celebrity.

First published in 1973, Crash remains one of the most shocking novels of the second half of the 20th century and was made into an equally controversial film by David Cronenberg.

5. Audible Edition: Crash (ASIN B00595NDXM)

- The description is incorrect. It should be the same as the digital audiobook edition.

Thank you to anyone who can help with these issues, and anyone who has helped or will help with The Great Ballard Clean-Up Project in the days and weeks to come.

#2 is already showing as 400 page count for me when I checked

Thanks so much for your help.

It seems that (as is custom) the Amazon bot has screwed up and assigned the ebook ISBNs to a Kindle edition, so I'll send a message to Goodreads staff to try to get that fixed and mark this thread as complete if/when they take care of the issue.
