PattyMacDotComma | 633 comments I can just see the classroom that would have loved helping to put this together. Holes in My Underwear: Over 100 Poems That Will Knock Your Socks Off by their teacher Matthew Eicheldinger is an entertaining collection for kids that I hope might encourage others to dabble at poetry themselves.

PattyMacDotComma | 633 comments I am a card-carrying fan of Mick Herron's Slow Horses series, and the latest instalment, Clown Town, is terrific! He's such a good writer. This one has real spies, failed spies, and blackmailing pensioner spies.

PattyMacDotComma | 633 comments So far, I've enjoyed everything I've read by Aussie author Michael Robotham. For many years, he was a journalist in London, a place he knows well, where The White Crow is set. I like the premise of the daughter of a gangster being a young detective. Of course, Philomena's always suspected by both sides of leaking information, but Robotham makes it work.

PattyMacDotComma | 633 comments Children's book Streetlights in the Dark, is a simplified World War Two escape story about two little kids running and hiding from the Nazis one night. I have summarised the story to give a sense of how the subject is handled. It's out in January.

PattyMacDotComma | 633 comments A recent excellent read is the brand new Legacy, an Aussie outback thriller by a favourite journalist-turned fiction writer, Chris Hammer. I'm developing a soft spot for former journos who seem to understand what matters in a story, how to keep it moving, and tell it well.
Legacy (Martin Scarsden, #4) by Chris Hammer My review of Legacy
