Why three posts looking for the same book?

Hi, sorry this is my first time using Goodreads and when I pressed post on the app it somehow triplicated it. I have deleted the extra ones :)

This book sounds really unique and memorable. I'm sure we can track it down.
Were the main characters teenagers or younger children?

From what I remember the kids were probably around 12 years old although I read it a long time ago.

No worries! I can't help you with the title of this one. Good luck-I hope someone can identify it for you.

Omg this is it! Thank you so much Becca, I really enjoyed this book as a child but I've been looking for it for months and I was starting to think i'd made it up.
This thread is now solved.

One member of the group was a girl who was particularly dramatic and averse to activities they participated in. She was later revealed to be an actor sent in to make it interesting and stir up conflict.
There was one boy in the group who had a deep interest in this time period. However, he had a run in with one of the police officers and was disqualified due to some disagreement or inaccuracy relating to a badge or paperwork that either he or the officer had on them. Following this the other children decided those running the simulation were being unfair and refused to comply with it any further.
This revolt resulted in them spending the rest of the allotted time of the project living on set in modern clothing and socialising with the actors who were running the simulation.
I have tried searching for this and it either brings up children’s fiction set in WWII which this technically isn’t or the book ‘running out of time’ due to the simulated village element neither of which are what I am looking for.
I found this book in the classroom of a British primary school if that helps at all. Thanks for any knowledge anyone can offer.
