I think The Hunger Games is relatively easy to read. There are also movies you can watch before reading or after if you prefer that could help you understand the story line better. It’s a Dystopian book so if you are interested in that I think it could be good!

There is also Divergent and Twilight which both have movies of their own. Twilight is a bit longer though.

Let me know if this helps! 😊

lxciole | 2 comments English is also not my first language, and I started with the Harry Potter series, as I had already read it in my language several times... I knew the story, so even if I didn't understand something, it wasn't a big deal

Marti If you're not too into English, I'd say something like Percy Jackson, but if you already know English and you just have never read a book in that language, you can try YA of the genre you like, for example I started with Shadowhunters when I was younger and it was a good experience

Dethesha | 4 comments English is also not my first language and I agree that the shatter me series is good to start even it’s dystopian world there is no such thing as hard words-building and I literally don’t have control over myself the book was so good and I ended up reading the entire series so quicker than ever. And I also recommend The thousand boy kisses by Tillie Cole. It’s so good and it literally break my heart and I remember my self sobbing for hours after reading it. So if you want a fast pacing book with so strong storyline you should read it.<33

Maya | 23 comments I haven't read all her books yet, only started Solitaire (and read Heartstopper), but I think that Alice Oseman's writing is pretty easy to read. And the Heartstopper-Comics can be found online, so if Comics sound fine (and you have no trouble with LGBTQ+ romance) then those might be a good start :)

Daniele (danielezan) | 25 comments Easy English is found in all children literature: comics (e.g. Donald Duck), kids novels (e.g. Enid Blyton). There is also a variety of books that are abridged, thus with a much simpler vocabulary. Otherwise I would recommend to read on a Kindle, so just by tapping the word you will get the definition from the dictionary instantaneously.

Ptera Hunter (ptera_hunter) | 23 comments Years ago, I knew some kids from Vietnam who knew all the old Star Trek episodes from Vietnamese television. A friend had given me some photo novels of the shows, and I passed them along to them. They barely knew five words in English, but the photos, combined with the simplified dialog, helped them.

octav | 31 comments ya literature seems a safe choice. english isn’t my first language either, and i started with some rom coms. they are funny and have a less pretentious vocabulary. i really recommended ‘book lovers’ and ‘better than the movies’. even ‘seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo’, a contemporary classic, was an easy read for me in english. if you still struggle, try reading on a electronic device; your phone, tablet or kindle and look instantly for the words you don’t understand. :)

Ru | 1 comments English is not my first language either and a book I found easy to read was The Inheritance Games. Is YA and is set in the modern world, so the vocabulary it’s really easy to understand. Also the chapters are short and the story is good. I’m sure you will have no problem and will end up finishing the book in no time!

Lynn | 130 comments Try really YA books like Nancy Drew or The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. That was the first novel I ever read, so it was pretty easy.

RoXXie | The Art of Reading (roxxiesixx) | 2 comments My advice to you would be to read a book you already read in your language. Preferably one you really enjoyed a lot.

the easiest to start with would be the percy jackson series. its target is middle school so it's safe and easy. the author actually wrote it so that his kid could read it so...

luiloth | 9 comments Maybe try short stories so you can find authors you like before investing in a genre you don't like. You can find plenty online for free. Tor.com is a good website for original fiction with popular authors.

Robin Hood | 26 comments I finished They both die at the end very quickly. But I'm pretty good at English, I dont know how good you are? I personally had to look up 0 words in the dictionary. Or the hunger games is also good I think. That was the first English book I ever read

Farduusa 🦋 (butterfar19) | 2 comments As someone who started reading english books the past 2 years. I would recommend YA/NA romance books to start off. For example The Deal and Twisted series. They are mostly simple english and not that hard to understand. I recently started reading english fantasy books and i find those to be very hard to understand sometimes. Due to the world building and also they use hard terms. And i would have to use google translate. But that barely happens when reading romance or thrillers.

Irini :) (irini_rod) a good girl's guide to murder, the death cast trilogy (third book not out but they are more like standalones in the same setting) and you could manage six of crows if you are more advanced
