Historical Fiction/ Realistic Fiction book about a kid who has some sort of "power" to solve puzzles. Read around 2015-2018?

I hope this is the right formatting. The main character has an ability to solve puzzles but I think it's more than just being good at solving them. Something magic related. The mc goes to a muesam on a field trip and solves some sort of puzzle. I know their is some sort of archive in a garden with maybe magical plants and animals. There is a vualt door in the sewers. That's all I remember but I have been wanting to find it for a while. I read it maybe 5-8 years ago.
