The Hideout

Egon Hostovský
This is a classic World War II story by a Czech author - about a man hiding out in a basement.. it left me feeling kind of confused by the end.

The Bewitching

Silvia Moreno-Garcia
4 stars
This book has a strong mystery - thriller aspect to it which I really enjoyed. I enjoyed guessing who the killer / witch was. The plot has a triple timeline of 1908, 1934 and 1998. And yes I guessed who it was! If you pay attention you can guess it.

I finished this manga last night..
The plot in here annoyed me - I didn't like the bullying or how the popular brother was apparently blind to it all of those years - so I rated it only 2 stars.

Can't Be Tamed

Yamile Saied Méndez
4 stars!
A great story about two girls who feel they are being squeezed out by the other. And a mare named Velvet.

These poems made no sense to me... Only was confused and lost...

Raising Hare: A Memoir

Chloe Dalton
5 stars!
A very vivid memoir of raising a wild hare in the UK (England). A truly wonderful book!
The Little Encyclopedia of Enchanted Woodland
Creatures: An A-to-Z Guide to Mythical Beings of the
Forest

Jason Lancaster
3 stars
This one had many creatures I never heard of before including many North America ones.

3 Stars #YA
My feeling - Haymitch deserved better.
Hollow sigh of unfulfilled potential

Death at the White Hart

Chris Chibnall
4 stars!
I really enjoyed this mystery set in England. A pub owner is killed by someone, left tied to a chair in the center of the country road with deer antlers tied to his head. There is an interesting cast of characters here, including a lady detective who has a failing marriage and she is a workaholic. It's the smaller characters in here like Shannon (9) and Frankie (they/them) that bring the story to life.

Taming Kane

Tessa Stone
2 stars!
Story was very dull and it mainly was the werewolf bossing her so she wasn't allowed to do anything. Basically a non story.

2 stars. Mostly just poorly written short stories.

Anything by Dan Carlin (like The End is Always Near).4/5

I have rated with 5 stars, this is the book that made me love reading! Never disappoints.

4 STARS ARC NETGALLEY

Silver Throat

Siri Pettersen
5 stars!!
A very complex fantasy story (vampires) for the intelligent reader.
Horse Whisperings: Portraits by Bob
Tabor

Bob Tabor
2 stars!
The photos in this book are poor quality to me.

I placed it on my Best of 2025 list🏆 Albeit lengthy, (688 pgs.) it’s an immersive fluid read and penned solely through verse… who does that?

Marcus of Umbria: What an Italian Dog Taught an American Girl about Love

Justine van der Leun
5 stars!
This wonderful memoir not only tells you what it is like to live in a small 200 person Italian town with an Italian family (the author is an American who moved there) but her life with a dog named Marcus. Lots of surprises in here.
The Empress of Salt and Fortune

Nghi Vo
2 stars
While I read the whole book, it was dry like a history lesson and the story seemed to exist in this limbo with no description of the setting.

Off the Spectrum: Why the Science of Autism Has Failed Women and Girls

Gina Rippon
3 stars
The book didn't really seem to say all that much. Which is odd. It kept repeating over and over "that had mainly been studied in males" but the book is supposed to be about females! Kind of weird....

I finished a few days ago as well. Five-Star Rating, for me, also.

Spectacular Bid: Thoroughbred Legends (Thoroughbred Legends

Timothy T. Capps
2 stars!
This was dry and confusing!
North to the Future: An Offline Adventure through
the Changing Wilds of Alaska

Ben Weissenbach
4 stars!
This memoir is a vivid adventure story set in the wilderness of Alaska. Bears and wolves, difficult terrain, clouds of mosquitoes, hiking out in nature...
My review explains the book better.
