A reread. Great 5/5

Lizp | 73 comments Prophet Song, Paul Lynch.

Dystopian. Very well written. Not quite what I expected . It’s not that I disbelieve this kind of Stasi repression could happen in Ireland, there was just something missing from the story for me.

4/5.

message 1633: by Dee (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments 1793: The Wolf and the Watchman by Niklas Natt och Dag. 10 stars! A Swedish Sherlock and Watson, but better, if you can believe it. A detailed vision of the 18th c. reveals government as corrupt as now, and pollution, too. It’s the first in a trilogy but I don’t think he can do better than this. A body without limbs, teeth, tongue, or eyes. A police detective with a library of the mind, dying of consumption. And a giant of a Watson, with a war injury, too—except his is a wooden arm he wields as a weapon! And one helluva a defiant young woman. (A special touch: the author’s surname means “Night and Day.” C’mon, ya gotta love it.
