I have been caught up by the stress of the reading challenge before!! At the end of the day you have to remember it's supposed to be an optional extra to ADD enjoyment to reading, not make it a chore! Hopefully the reduced challenge will help, Dale! :)

I am behind on mine this year too but I haven't changed it yet. I think it will be a very close call though!

I thought that too Phrynne, but I seem to be reading less as I've got busy doing other things!

Yes I can see that being an issue. A great problem to have though! Beats working anyway:)

Yes, indeed Phrynne!!!

message 911: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1576 comments How did everyone cope during last night’s Amazon (including Goodreads) crash? I was convinced it was me at first! It was very discombobulating not to be able to access “My Books” on demand, illustrating how much I rely on GR on a daily basis!

On a side note, how much better would it be if the App took you directly to the most recent comments in a thread, rather than the first comment, which in this and many cases was years ago?

message 912: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15981 comments Mod
I only just found out about it Sarah! I did find I couldn't use Goodreads at one point yesterday but I thought it was just them having their usual issues and read my book instead!

I was frustrated, but didn’t realise it was part of a much larger outage until later in the night. I’d been trying to add a couple of titles to my TBR and had to WRITE them down instead! 😆

Goodreads as well as NetGalley were down with the outage, along with plenty of other apps. Ours weren't mentioned of course, but it seems they're all back onboard! I just turned off the computer and went to bed with a book :)

message 916: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 7103 comments I thought it was just me having issues so interested to hear it was Goodreads. Etc that was the problem
Glad it is all sorted,😁

I did that too - I think it's to do with the outage yesterday. Haven't received any since that one though!!

Has anyone noticed anything different about Goodreads since this crash happened?

Probably unrelated, but I feel something happened behind the scenes in October 2024 - perhaps with algorithms and news feeds.

And now I'm feeling whatever that was maybe happened again and corrected itself - too early to tell.

I haven't noticed anything different yet Rowan.

Neither have I - only that notifications haven't righted themselves yet.

Rowan MacDonald | 416 comments Probably imagining it then Haha I'm just seeing people in my news feed that I haven't for a while and vice versa.

Yes, they're a bit weird, though. I think Rowan's right and the algorithm has been re-booted as a result of the outage.

I went to a Dymocks Literary Lunch yesterday and the guest speaker was Joanna Nell speaking about her new book The Funeral Crashers. She was such an interesting person to listen to and she made the book sound so good I started it as soon as I got home. I plan to finish it this afternoon and I know it is five stars already.

The one that Phrynne was talking about at the Dymocks luncheon is a light one Dale :)

Dale Harcombe | 7103 comments Thanks Brenda. Have already added that. If there are any books in large print that would be even better. Old eyes are getting a bit tired there’s days,😁

Carolyn | 9907 comments Have you tried reading on a kindle Dale? I like to read in bed without my glasses and can increase the font size to make that more comfortable.

message 938: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 7103 comments Thanks for that Carolyn. 💕I actually don’t like reading on Kindle or reading in bed either, strange creature that I am😁 I only use technology for short things,

I'm with you there Dale. Trying to make notes on e-books sends me into a hissy-fit - especially when everything freezes.

Do you use your library for large print books Dale? Mine appears to have a large selection and they can borrow more from other libraries.
