Jaguar Prophecies by Jeff Wheeler 1/9/2024I enjoyed the second book in the series and am looking forward to listening to the third book once it is released later this year.
Title: The Poisoned Chocolates CaseAuthor: Anthony Berkeley
How it fits the prompt: Last year I read other books in the British Crime Library series.
Rating: 4*
Also fits: #17 a book involving intelligence; #37 a book that is part of a series
For this prompt I read Stephen King because I read/started a handful of Stephen King in 2023 :o)I picked
I gave it a 4.50 stars
I read In the Lives of Puppets. Looking at the second prompt from last year I read Gleanings. So using the author Neal Shusterman on the literature map (my favorite prompt of 2023) I saw T.J. Klune. I had been wanting to read this for awhile so it worked out well.Oh and it was enjoyable, I feel like Kline does a great job of writing books that remind me of books I read as a kid but elevated to be enjoyable for adults.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - Lisa See - ⭐⭐ - 1/15/2024
I had been looking forward to reading this book since after I read another book by the same author. I had actually planned to read two books by the author but a book that I was waitlisted for at the library was returned by mistake and I had to choose another book. Overall, it wasn't as immersive as I was expecting. I didn't feel connected to the characters or the setting. The plot was very unsatisfying. There were several times when I thought the book was going to get better and explore potential storylines but it never went where I hoped it would go. I could understand Lily's frustration with Snow Flower due to her behaviour, but I just didn't think she deserved the harsh life that she was given. I wanted more from this book. I wanted a good character arc. I didn't even need a happy ending. But I was just bored by much of this book and put it down for about a week, not wanting to pick it up again. I wouldn't recommend this book and I hope that it is not the author's best writing.

Orgullo y prejuicioI'm learning Spanish and for to enhance my reading skills, I'm reading "Orgullo y Prejuicio," which is Pride and Prejudice in Spanish. I read P&P in 2023, hence the connection.
I finished Murder On The Orient Express. I read an Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot book last year also
This is a stretch. I read fantasy and nonfiction so decided to slot the book here.
Slaying the Dragon: A Secret History of Dungeons & Dragons
4⭐
I also love the cover art.
In December I love to pick fun books to read, a little romance or beach reads. It can be a stressful month and I love have a book to escape the holiday fuss. This past December I started Elin Hilderbrand's Paradise Series. Absolutely perfect, islands, intrigue, lots of talk of home decor, and short chapters! For this prompt I read the second book in the series What Happens in Paradise. I have put the final book in the trilogy on hold with Libby! Will be a great late winter read! Always nice to read about the sunshine on a grey winter's day.
I read The First to Die at the End by Adam Silvera, as this is the prequel of his They Both Die at the End, a book I had read and loved in 2023. This book felt a bit repetitive though very warm and heart-touching.
For this prompt I read Sarum: The Novel of England by Edward Rutherfurd. Last year I read London and wanted to follow up with this book. Perfect when read one after the other. I have always loved history and Rutherfurd brings it to life for me in a very special way.
For this prompt, I read:Murtagh by Christopher Paolini - 4* - My Review (same author I read last year - a set of short stories and a novel set in the same fantasy land)
I read Wicked as She Wants by Delilah S. Dawson for this prompt. I read book 1 a few years ago, but last year I read a novella set in the same world. I loved the book. I love the world she has created, and I am looking forward to books 3 and 4.
I read The Borrowers Aloft by Mary Norton. Last year I read The Borrowers Afloat and loved it! Brings back childhood.
Continuing with this series. I read Royal Flush in July 2023
✔ - 30Jan24Royal Blood – Rhys Bowen – 3***
Book number four in the delightful Lady Georgiana Ranoch series of cozy mysteries takes us out of London and to a remote castle in the mountains of Romania for a royal wedding. I like this series. Georgie manages to get herself caught up in all sorts of intrigues. This episode in her life was a little over-the-top, though Georgie, of course, keeps her head and manages to help solve the case. She’s certainly resourceful! An entertaining quick read.

For this prompt, I read Best Love Rosie by O FAOLAIN NUALA, one of my favorite authors. Sadly, this was Ms. O'Faolain's last novel, on love, friendship and aging, which was published in 2009, a year after her death. I just learned about the book's existence last year upon reading her memoir, Almost There. I highly recommend all of this author's beautiful novels and memoirs.
As someone who had planned to read a non-fiction book related to a fiction book last year, yeah, I killed that idea. Apologies for the pun as I move forward.
Last year I had a great one day reading experience of Molly Molloy and the Angel of Death, where Molly fell in love with Death. Somehow, I now find myself reading Casket Case, where the heroine basically, falls in love with Death. What are the chances.

For my birthday in 2023 I was gifted a "travelling book Subscription"
Each book was set in The UK and accompanied by ideas for the discerning traveller, Postcards of the area covered.
The first Once Upon a Wardrobewas a based around the Lion the witch and the Wardrobe with CS Lewis as a character and set around Oxford.
The Winter Garden was the second book is about the Gunpwder plot from a different perspective.
This third book Begars Abbey is set musch closer to my home In York in a house that is now owned by the national trust and that we have visited. It was a delightfully spooky read without descending into real horror
