R24: Team #1 ~ Prose Before Bros

Requirement ~ Read a book featuring a werecat shifter
For this one, I’m going to read

It’s on GR UF shelf - https://www.goodreads.com/genres/urba...

Which reminds me... I'm a little behind and need to catch up. Is there a cat shifter in Alpha Night, do you remember? It seems to be a wolf book and not from the Snow Dancer pack where there is always at least one cat shifter making an appearance so I'm thinking no, but maaaaaybe?

Which reminds me... I'm a little behind and need to catch up. Is ther..."
Don't think there are any were cats in Alpha Night.

I'll finish my Mercy book and then I'll see.

Not sure if these will be of any help, but here are two GR lists of feline shifter books: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9... & https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
Have you read any of Jacky Leon? #1 Oath Sworn It's UF about werecats & werewolves, with some romance later on in the series.

Thanks! :-)

I meant that I wasn't going to do a re-read. Saving it for just in case I desperately need it for a tough call! I re-read what I wrote and realize that it sounded like I was saying that the rule was no re-reads. I know you all aren't that cruel! :)

I need to read the newest Murderbot for Turf Wars over in Game Night. The current round (that I'm reading for) ends at midnight on Wednesday. The call here is at 6:00 pm. And I'll be at Disneyworld. If I was at home I would save it for the end just in case it fits here. But I'll need to listen to it before our next call. Sad, but I do plan to enjoy my visit with Murderbot. I just won't look it in the eye. We can stare at a wall side-by-side.

Jacky Leon is one of my favorite series. I hope you enjoy it, if you end up giving it a read.

😆 No worries 🤔 we might be that cruel, just not in this instance 😜

😆 *I'm not lookin' at you ...*
Enjoy Disneyworld.

*Caveat that Kingson Pride is Reverse Harem. I know Jacky Leon isn’t, so giving warning.

Fat Cat by Rachel Vincent
Series: Shifters #7
Shelf: GR Urban Fantasy
Category #5: Nat'l Cat Day (shifters in this series are werecats)
Read: 16 Nov
Rating: ★★★★☆
My Review:
Fat Cat, Charley and Davey's shifter-friendly bar, is the setting for Rachel Vincent's return to her Shifters series, which ended with Alpha (2010) and spun-off into Lion's Share (2015). To say I was surprised to find another installment would be an understatement. I loved Shifters and really enjoyed Wildcats. I'm excited about what is to come with this continuation though I was hesitant going into it. I quickly fell back into Vincent's world of strays. While much of this reads like the start of a new series, I'm sure to bring in those who haven't read the previous 9.5 books, I would recommend reading the earlier installments to familiarize yourself with this shifter world, the stray community and the trauma faced by the females in it.
Charley and Davey took over Fat Cat bar in Buford, Tennessee when their parents retired to Florida. Charley is a stray and the Marshal of the northern zone of the Mississippi Valley Pride. Her sister, Davey, is a human-in-the-know, but humans aren't supposed to know. The community of strays who frequent the bar is tight and everyone in it has pledged to keep the sisters' secret and keep Davey safe.
My zone. My rules. Anyone who doubted that was welcome to fuck around and find out.Charley's friendly, but understands the weight of her responsibilities. She's a fair, but strong leader. When two newbies come to the bar, she goes through the process of interviewing and registering them. Austin Graham and Bishop Mattheson have lost their sister and wife, respectively, and they're on the hunt for her murderer. The manner of her death bring forth the trauma of Charley's attack leaving her wondering if her attacker, long dead, wasn't acting alone or if an unknown second man or someone new has taken to attacking and killing human women.
I liked Charley's story, but I'd been hoping for more interactions with Vincent's OG Shifters. We have a couple of great interactions with Faythe, the only female Alpha, and most likely more to come following her proposition to Charley, as well as a short interaction with Jace. I think those who don't read the previous installments will find this entertaining without feeling like they're missing a lot of history built earlier. But, that could be because I know what came before.
(view spoiler) The last 3/4 of the story and the way this book ended left me even more inclined to continue with the series. As a fan, I'm glad Vincent decided to return to this world. I'm hoping this generation will be as good a read as those before them.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Nat'l Savings Day

Book: Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs
Date Read: 18th November
Pages: 341
Rating: 4.5 stars
How it fits: got it for free from a friend who picked it up in the States for me and MPG UF
Review:
Another fun instalment in the Mercy Thompson series. There is always a lot of chaos when the stories begin but it always weaves itself into a good plotline. The Soul Taker was an interesting artefact, one of those that made me wonder if these sentient old things aren't a little nuts - or maybe a lot nuts in this particular case.
I was a little annoyed by Warren having a problem that made his skin crawl but he was too stubborn to ask for help, but nevertheless reserved the right to snap at everyone who offered to help. Then there was Sherwood - the revelation of who he is and that was something I hadn't seen coming. I'm curious to find out more and to see how this will develop in future books because it will most certainly become a bigger topic at some point sooner or later.
And then there's Wulfe. Always Wulfe. He's a special cookie but I like him. No matter how broken he is or how many cookies he's lost along the way of his long life. He's going to stir up some shit again in the next book, I just know it.

But before a final decision is made, I'll dive back into The House of Shattered Wings to finish that up as quickly as possible. I've neglected that book in favour of my book club read The Lost Daughter, which took waaaaaay too much time for a 188 page book o.O (in the German edition)
The first third was SO quick! I thought I'd be done in 2-3 days. And then it just stagnated and it was difficult to get through. To the point where I picked up the Mercy book last weekend to have something fun to read because I needed a break.
But back to my angels now! A murder mystery set in a dystopian world where there are fallen angels hehe. It sounded awesome before I picked it up and I'm enjoying it. There is no info dump and you learn the world as you make your way through it with the main character, but that's how I like fantasy. Discovering along the way :-)

I liked Wild Invitation and hope you do, too, if you go with it.
Yay for another stamp 😊

I really like Wulfe!
All the Psy-Changeling shorts are fun. I look forward to her newsletters for the snippets!

But yes, am enjoying it! I've read both DarkRiver stories and will hopefully read one of the two SnowDancer stories tonight and - if all goes to plan - I'll read the last one on Wednesday and have the book done before the next shelf call for a change haha.
I'm off work next week so I'll have plenty of time to finally catch up!! :-)

Book: The Lion Mistress: Book 2
Date Read: 11/21
Rating: 4 stars
Pages: 429
How it fits: Ithric is a lion shifter; Shelved Paranormal Romance by 1 person (not me, I swear!)
Review: This is an interesting one to review. I really like the world and the story. The characters are real. But the author has a different take on sex. The is the second menage grouping of theirs that I've read, and both of them have a eunuch in the group. It makes for some interesting sexy times!

I'm too far behind for Bingo to be over already haha!! :-p
And since I semi-planned my reading, it of course went to hell. I managed 5 pages last night before I was out like a light haha. Maybe tonight will be better :-)

Well, I think this is a winning shelf for a couple teams.
Category #6 ~ 22 Nov: Kindness To Animals Day
Requirement ~ Read a book featuring a shifter character; animal on cover; “kind” in series name, title or author’s name
I’m gonna be reading

Is it? Victoria's post in the Discussion thread doesn't mention it as being a winning shelf for any teams.

For it not being a winning shelf, I mean hehe. The important things in life, you know ;-))

Kindness to Animals Day

Book: Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
Pages: 489
How it fits. werewolf book and MPG PNR
That way I'll also finally finish off that trilogy!

Oops, my bad 😆
I've finished mine and will get my review up before our next shelf. Happy reading, y'all!

Review:
Beat of Temptation
Tamsyn and Nathan have always been a great couple on the Psy-Changeling universe, somehow grounded and their twin cubs are forces of nature. Their beginning wasn't quite as easy however, and it was fun to read about it in more detail. Silly Nathan :-p Good fun though.
Stroke of Enticement
Zach and Annie meet because of Zach's nephew, her student, and Zach doesn't waste any time at all to lay claim to this woman he just met. While I'm not much of a fan of insta-love, Nalini Singh always makes me forget that. I guess it has to do with the fact that changelings are part animal and just function differently when it comes to finding mates. I enjoyed this one most of the four stories.
Declaration of Courtship
This was an interesting one. Grace, a submissive, is being courted by Cooper, an extremely dominant wolf. The gap between them in terms of pack hierarchy is very large but somehow they make it work and it doesn't feel forced. This was also the longest of the four stories, since the romance needed a little more time to develop because of this power issue. Once again, good fun.
Texture of Intimacy
Lara and Walker are a known couple from the series, so they aren't new to the read, but it's like wrapping oneself up in a warm blanket to read about familiar characters in a new story. I'm still itching to know way more about Walker's background than we ever fully learn in the series, but some things are probably better not spelt out completely.
