Joy D | 10073 comments With this roll, I'm using a tag-related benefit to move forward 2, taking me to space #12.

message 52: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 681 comments A potentially unnecessary update:

I have officially finished my last book (27) and have posted a review. I am now using my specially move (6-4: 49'ers score, move forward 30 spaces) to move to book 57.

All of this is noted on my gameboard.

I did roll for myself and took a screenshot but I hope everyone will trust that I did just put in whatever came up on random.org dice roller.

While I don't trust Ursula even the length of a single tentacle, I do trust you.

Plus I've told CGI Tom to report any abuses to Mistress JoAnne.

I mean, I've got to keep him busy or he will spend all his time mooning after Amy and her seminar at Northeastern! The man is shameless!

message 57: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10073 comments Just to document for when Anita is back - my last 2 rolls were 4,6, which qualifies for a Special Advantage.

Using a special advantage saved from earlier - noted on my board.

Joy D | 10073 comments JoAnne, With this roll, I am using 3 participation points to move forward 3 spaces (from a previous 1,2 roll), putting me on space 24. I have noted it on my Board.

message 62: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments May please have a roll (1), ta :)

message 63: by Rachel N. (new)

Rachel N. | 2237 comments Joy in a team effort between Theresa and Joanne here's your 6-4 advantage:

Take the year your State entered the Union and add it up for your special roll.

Ex: Utah joined the Union 1896 1+8+9+6=24

message 64: by Joy D (last edited Oct 08, 2023 07:44AM) (new)

Joy D | 10073 comments Very cool and creative! My state is Nevada, which joined in 1864. So, 19! I'll save it for later. Thanks!

As an aside, Nevada's anniversary is coming up on October 31st, and we celebrate "Nevada Day" each year as a state holiday. (I was surprised when I first moved here as I've never lived in a state that does this.)

Rachel N. | 2237 comments Shake it up Sunday

Theresa I'm sorry to say Ursula picked on you again but in a bit of kindness the dice roller declared you only have to move back one space.

message 67: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Theresa!!!!!! Your relationship with Ursula is a lot like mine with Gnarly!!! Love and affection can bloom in the most unexpected of places.

message 68: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12568 comments Just face the facts Theresa-Ursula has you in her net, hates you and she is not letting go. I told Tom to round up some cabana boys, dress them as "little mermaids" and beat her up. I hope that helps.

message 69: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments I would like another roll please (3).

My book, which I landed on in September, had enough tags for literary fiction to qualify for the 2 extra dice which I would like to use for this roll. All noted in my tracker.

That Ursula! 😤

I'm nearly finished with my current Subdue book and was so looking forward to a roll ...

Thanks for the Cabanna Boys ... definitely helping! 🥰

message 71: by Robin P (last edited Oct 08, 2023 10:15AM) (new)

Robin P | 5735 comments I always forget about the tag. Only 1 Subdue book in Sept was tagged Lit Fiction more than 5 times, that was Real Life with 266 tags. That means I can roll 2 dice. But now that I am on another board, can I still use or save that?

message 72: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Um... Have I been doing this all wrong? I thought when the subdue book matches the tag, you get three participation points. I had no idea that the number of tags determines more rolls. I thought you get more rolls for longer books, of which I have none on subdue, so I haven't paid attention.

I have three subdue books in from the library, and was going to start the first one today.... But it turns out Weyward is overdue at the Library, so that one is next....

Amy here is the rule:

b) If you land on a book that has the same tag as the monthly tag, you will get an extra move to use when you wish:
5-25 taggers - move forward 1 space
25-50 taggers - move forward 2 spaces
50-100 taggers move forward 5 spaces
More than 100 taggers - roll two dice
This award must be noted on your tracking thread at the time you land on the book that earns it. The book does not need to be completed/reviewed in the month with the tag . . .this bonus is triggered when you land on the book.

Robin P | 5735 comments Booknblues wrote: "Amy wrote: "Um... Have I been doing this all wrong? I thought when the subdue book matches the tag, you get three participation points. I had no idea that the number of tags determines more rolls. ..."

So since I didn't note it at the time, it sounds like I don't get to use it, no problem, I'll be more alert if it happens again.

Is there a prize for most times someone shaken up? 'Cause I might be in the lead now for it!

The dice roller definitely liked 4 today. Hopefully the tag question has been cleared up but if not please let me know.

Many western states have a Statehood Day - Montana, Kansas, both Dakotas. Hawaii too I think. It was significant to be a state and no longer part of territorial rule - a real independence day.

And to add insult to injury, Ursula's seeming 'gift' of only shaking me back 1 space was a punishment - as a 2 or higher would have given me a 'winter' book! Not tagged necessarily but works to meet my book for monthly tag! She hit the only one that doesn't.

I hear her cackling with glee! 🐙🤣

I will update my tracking later. I need to pout for a while, finish my subdue book, and work on a new jigsaw puzzle.

Amy | 12913 comments That was a fantastic explanation with ten weeks to go. Might have been useful at another time...... We shall see moving forward. What a complicated nuanced wonderful challenge this has been.

Amy, darlin', this explanation has always been there, in the rules set forward when the Porter and future boards were set up-LoL!

Thanks, Rachel!! This lands me on #71

My mood insisted that I really want to read book #72 so I'll be using my advantage gained from reading 'winter' book (#67) and moving 1 spot forward.

Joy D | 10073 comments JoAnne, I am going to use another saved benefit to use 3 participation points to move forward 3 spaces to #36, which I will note on my Board.

message 89: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15510 comments I just want to point out that I've only reached #20 on my Porter board which I uploaded on May 5th. Ursula has made sure I've stayed no farther along than the Baggage Car, even sent me back to Clerk to make sure I make no real forward progress! She's had me read 11 books so far in Porter, including the one I was sent back to Clerk to read.

And she's made sure I skip every single book I deliberately put on there that is a read for a year long challenge. Every. single. one. Even when I put in more than one option for the challenge prompts.

Bad Ursula! Bad!

Amy | 12913 comments Theresa, I have to admit I am. Dr afraid to be angry with her on your behalf. Can I just say how much I admire your perseverance and creativity in the face of such resistance and challenge and adversity.

I did overhear that the cabana boys are so angry with her that she is getting no dessert and no wine!!!! And that all warm dishes are tepid or downright cold! Even worse, a few key critical puzzle pieces have gone missing from her puzzle. You can thank Gnarly for that!

I wondered where Gnarly had snuck off to... I thought maybe he was off with CGI Tom cozying up in your seminar at Northeastern!
Got some fresh Meowy Wowwy for Gnarly as a thank you!

Love our Cabanna Boys! I'm having new equipment and mirrors installed for them in the Caboose duplex gym as a thank you, and keep up the good work!

I'll just take one Rachel. THanks.
