Jenna Norbury | 2 comments Hi,

I remember reading a book probably about 20 years ago. It is a children’s book with potentially a blue cover maybe with fish on. I think I read this book when I was about 12.

Some quotes I remember from the book:
“Life is not a bowl full of cherries but a bowl full of cherries is still a bowl full of cherries” - this quote was in reference to the girl and her family laughing despite their grief for her sister. The boy is shocked they can laugh but she explains that something good is still valid even in the midst of grief.

“One fiss two fiss red fiss blue fiss" - the sister who dies was really young and this was read at her funeral as the Dr Seuss book was her favourite and this is how she pronounced it.

Things I remember from the story:
The boy meets the girl at a bus stop.
She is involved in caring for her younger siblings.
There is an incident when the boy is fishing and he falls in and needs to be wrapped up to get warm.
The girls sister dies after being knocked over by a car.
The boy feels guilty as he couldn’t save her.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

'Life is not a bowl of cherries, Jake, as we know. But a bowl of cherries is still a bowl of cherries.' Jake had no idea what that meant.
