Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I can't believe this is the last one :(
I have absolutely loved the series. And Grumpy Monkey Spring Fever is wonderful! 5 stars for me on this one, but I might be influenced by the spectacular spring day today. I could totally relate to Jim Panzee today!

message 53: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I'll be reading him tomorrow. We had some spectacular days last weekend. Alas rain all week. And tomorrow.

I too am very sad we are at the end of the series.... One reason I've held off reading it even though I've had it a week or so now.

message 54: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments 5 stars, 5 hearts, and 25 Easter Eggsvfrom me! You did find all the striped eggs? I did!

Hope you read this to Buck - and showed him everyone wearing flower leis and crowns!

This might be my favorite. So wonderful.

Am going to miss these. Thank you for joining me in reading these! Best Buddy Read EVER!

message 55: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I did! I found all the striped eggs! But I have to admit, I missed one the first time I looked!

Buck loved the book. Spring is his favorite time of year. What did Bessie think?

I enjoyed this series very much, and sharing them with you was the best! Everyone who didn't join us missed out!

message 56: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I agree - all missed out but rspecially those in reading slumps. It would have cured those in no time!

Bessie is demanding her personal set of the books. I think she liked them.😜

message 57: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments My librarian just told me she ordered the newest Grumpy Monkey for our shelves. And when I checked, it looks like another one is due out in the spring:)

Grumpy Monkey Play All Day is next and Grumpy Monkey Mom for a Day will be out in the spring, just in time for mother's day I'm guessing!

Theresa | 15518 comments Count me in! Going to Libby now ....

I could use a fresh dose of Jim and Norman!

ETA: just tagged the play one Notify Me on Libby!

message 59: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4099 comments I can’t get any of these through Libby, sigh. Will ask the librarian if they are available anywhere in the country on interloan

message 60: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I hope you can find them Kate. They are really fun!

message 61: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Really hope you find them! They are so much fun, you and Little Miss will so enjoy them together!

Maybe talk to the librarian about getting them for the library.

Have you tried checking them out on YouTube - the teacher's reading them? Fran suggested those and I actually have read them and listened to each - I particularly like this one of the first book:

https://nortonsafe.search.ask.com/vid...

They are all available and you can use them to persuade the librarian the get them for the library. Lordy, had I known, you could have picked them up while you passed through NYC.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12569 comments Ok, I finally did it! I listen to the First Grumpy Monkey from that site you just listed Theresa-Making me smile first thing out of bed is a difficult thing to do-but this did it. I am still smiling as I type this. I have it in my bookmarks now and I will listen to more of them. It is tempting to listen to them all at once, but I want to have this in my pain relief tool box when I really need something to lift my spirits.

Katrine, Small will adore them-the guy who reads them is great with the animal voices!

message 63: by Theresa (last edited Aug 22, 2024 10:00AM) (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I knew you would love them!

You are wise not to rush them all at once because each needs its own special attention.

I've listened to them all after reading each (by ebook - I've put the actual print books on my Christmas Wishlist used by family and friends), but the others have mostly women teachers. I didn't look very hard - at all- to see if this guy read them all. They are such a delight.

You can see why Lyn and I are such huge fans. I will tell you, reading these one at a time spread out with Lyn picked me up during some rough stressful times.

message 64: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments @Lyn - it took a while, but we finally seem to have some traction to getting our PBT friends to join us in this buddy read.

😁

message 65: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I am so glad that others are enjoying the books too. I love them all, and like you and Joanne, they put a smile on my face each time I read (or even think about) each one. :)

message 66: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Grumpy Monkey Play All Day just download from the library!

message 67: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I just read Play All Day and as always, was charmed. Loved all the "play" he engaged in! And the idea of needing to clean his 'limb' and pick off his flees had me grinning.

message 68: by Lyn (last edited Dec 27, 2024 06:34PM) (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I finally found Play All Day in at the library today! I have been looking for it for months, so I was thrilled I could finally read it. I found it to be just as charming and wonderful as the others. Jim Panzee is so funny, the illustrations in this one were especially well done I thought. These were fun! Have we read them all now?

I think so but I think there maybe another coming out in 2025!

I thought this one so cute, fun, and funny! Glad you did too!

We may need to revisit some from time to time. I have this buddy read marked as 'evergreen' in my personal tracking, LOL.

message 70: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I will definitely be on the lookout for Grumpy Monkey Mom for a Day in the spring!

message 71: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments The cover is adorable! I just put a Notify Me on Libby == though that hasn't ever actually notified me when a book comes into one of the 3 NYC libraries but it is a list that I see and is a reminder that way.

message 72: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I saw The Most Boring Book Ever at the library today. It is great! You have to check it out :)

message 73: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Oooh! Put it on hold in Libby. May find YouTube reading as there is a 7 week wait!

On the other hand, there is a bookstore next to the PO where I will be tomorrow that has a good children's section...

Will be back!

message 74: by Theresa (last edited Jan 22, 2025 03:34PM) (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Lyn - I just convinced a client to buy Grumpy Monkey - the first one - to read to his 3 year old daughter!

Still waiting for The Most Boring Book Ever to come up to my hold.

message 75: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments Your client and his daughter should love it! I bet they end up reading them all :)

message 76: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I think so too! I personally think both her dads will be as enamored as she will be. And said so.

And my hold came in on The Most Boring Book Ever! Will read this weekend.

message 77: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I want to recommend a childrens book that I read and reviewed here years ago - and on FB - and several friends went out and bought it: Cold Snap by Eileen Spinelli. Perfect with the polar vortex hovering over the US. Next time you are in the library, look for it.

Bet Buck would like it too.

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments Theresa wrote: "I want to recommend a childrens book that I read and reviewed here years ago - and on FB - and several friends went out and bought it: Cold Snap by Eileen Spinelli. P..."

I will look for it today.
Buck has not been thrilled with these colder temps, and has become a sun seeker. He was asking about Bessie and Sparkle just the other day.

message 79: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Well, going south is not finding warmth! Not sure what is up with Sparkle but Bessie actually likes cold weather, especially since she has her private stall with lots of warm hay to nestle in.

message 80: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I just finished Cold Snap. It brought back so many childhood memories of when winter and snow was fun! The illustrations are so cute too!

message 81: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments And Buck says the book is great, but he is glad it doesn't get that cold here :)

message 82: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments 😂 Buck is clearly a spoiled goat - or descended from those originating in Turkey or Greece. I just love how Cold Snap brings back the magic of snow - which in NYC does happen but lasts so short a time before it is just grungy and messy. Here if snow is from a blizzard and a couple feet or more, it actually be removed as there is no place to pile it up, at least in Manhattan. But when a deep snow, once routine, now rare, falls here - the first day is pure magic.

I just read The Most Boring Book Ever and what a wonder! An absolute marvel. I am definitely going to score a print copy for my collection as I just know I will have to revisit it. Magical concept and just gorgeous illustrations. That dragon!

Thanks for finding it and sharing!

message 83: by Theresa (last edited Feb 07, 2025 12:20AM) (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments @Lyn - the Christmas setting cozy mystery I am reading for one of my PH prompts is giving Buck and the crew hanging out in my barn ideas.

'Twas the Knife Before Christmas has a secondary character named Cookie (a widowed baker) who has a black and gray pygmy goat named Theodore, named after her beloved husband. Cookie has a fundraising for charity idea: a calendar with pictures of Theodore dressed up called A Goat for All Seasons,

Bessie and Buck have sent the Cabana Boys on a hunt for clothes and accessories to make their own.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12569 comments 😂🤣

message 85: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments Oh my goodness! That will be quite a project. I continue to be amazed at these mounts and what they come up with. I am so glad they are entertaining themselves and us! Will Sparkle provide the finishing touches of their outfits? I understand she has quite an eye for that kind of detail :)

They will without a doubt 'sparkle'. I believe she's in charge of makeup as well.

message 87: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I finished the cozy mystery, ending with the first calendars of the 12 Seasons of Theodore being given out for free on Christmas Eve at the annual holiday open house, with a comment that next year they will cost with all monies going to charity.

Everyone was reported to be eager to get one. 😅 I so wished I could really get one!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12569 comments We finally got a Grumpy Monkey book in the library donation room!
Grumpy Monkey Spring Fever - will read this evening and report in

Enjoy it Joanne! It's a fun one!

message 90: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Really loved that one!

message 91: by Joanne (last edited Feb 10, 2025 07:55AM) (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12569 comments I loved it! Jim is a great character and he actually passed on the Spring Fever to me. I got all my dirt in the house yesterday and all my pots and started planting my seeds!

Going to keep my eyes peeled for more of the books as I separate our donations. I will more than likely check out the You-Tube channel.

Knew you would love it! You see why Lyn and I set up thisBuddy Read.

The YouTube reads are good. I would watch them after reading the book.

message 93: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments I am so glad you enjoyed it Joanne. Jim Panzee is a special character. I have enjoyed all the Grumpy Monkey books, there is something special in each one.

message 94: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments @Lyn - isn't there supposed to be another new Grumpy Monkey coming out in 2025? Or is that wishful thinking?

message 95: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1122 comments Grumpy Monkey Mom for a Day is due out April 1st!

message 96: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12569 comments Oh, that looks like a good one!

message 97: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments I'll have to set up a 'notify me' tag on the ebook for NYPL. I suspect they don't have it yet - they now get new publications very close to publication date because the hold list gets ridiculous -- of course as it would in a city of $9M+.

message 98: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Joanne wrote: "Oh, that looks like a good one!"

They are ALL good!

message 99: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments Just checked and our libraries don't even list it to be notified - at least not yet. 😒

message 100: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15518 comments My libraries don't have Grumpy Monkey Mom for a Day yet. I did tag it to be notified when they do, though it is hit or miss if I see the notification. My email randomly filters stuff like that into a promotions folder which I rarely go through.
