Miley Tran | 2 comments I read this book around 2017-2019 though I think the book is much older than around the time I read it. I think the book's level was about Middle school or higher.
In the story, the main character, an intelligent monkey, gets lost from its owner and it goes on an journey to get back home. It meets a girl (could've been a singer?) and then it meets an emperor. I think it also played chess with the emperor but I'm not too sure. At the end of the story, it reunites with the owner and we also find out the story was written on a typewriter by said monkey.
Something I remember about the cover was that its art had a stippling art style.
There could be more in the story I'm missing, but that's all I remember.

Miley, what is the story's time period and location(s)? Emperor (or king?) or what nation?

I copied a few details to the topic header. Feel free to edit it.

Hello, Kris. I think the time period was around the 1900's, considering the fact the monkey uses a typewriter and the fact there's little modern technology in the story. For the locations, I think the monkey met the girl in a city, though I don't think it was related to any real locations. The emperor also ruled over a desert kingdom that was also never explicitly stated to be related to any real locations either.
