Is Forging Zero an Execellent Read or Not?

I read Forging Zero last year. However, it really made an impression on me that I couldn't shake off. In fact, I find personally, it is my anchor for comparing books if I like it or not. Because, though I don't understand why it is rated so highly, I can understand that it definitely makes an impression.

Although, Forging Zero was rated highly, I beg to differ. But before I state why, I must say that this discussion is not about attacking the author of the story. Rather it is to discuss whether or not if the book Forging Zero is really good or bad.

I think I'll state some solid facts why it is a horrible book. I may not remember all the reasons, but I absolutely abhorred this book to the point that I can immediately say that all books are wonderful compared to this book.

The reason I believe it was horrible is because of the protagonist:

1. Joe Dobb is a coward. He will only viciously attack those who he believes who will not strike him back and those that he believe will attack him, he will scrape and bow to save his miserable hide.

2. He has pedophilic sex with an underage girl that is only six who has mummy issues. The author tries it to make it into a proper relationship, but there is nothing even remotely correct about it.

3. He's supposed to be earth's hero, there was a prophecy, but he can never be. For one, he's too dumb. For instance, he is not able to see that people are trying to help or the fact that the aliens aren't treating him that badly. Besides that fact, the definition of a hero is someone who is brave. He is not brave, he leaves disarming small girls with pocket knives to his six year old girlfriend to do it while he cowers in abject terror.

Honestly, he cannot be the one who destroys the great alien empire. He is constantly being led by people around the nose and being played as being a fool and tool for the bad guys to use. He would probably nuke earth because he didn't realize it was earth or because he was tricked.

Another reason it is wrong is because he doesn't even try to unite humans, he is only looking out for himself. He should realize that it is more than just about him and surviving, it's about the whole of humanity.

So that's my opinion. What's yours? Is it a good book or a bad book?

Sorry , but I have not been in here in awhile but I loved all the Zero books and thought they were well written. Lets be fair they are books that are meant for escape or even just fun from every day life . They are fiction, so if you want some nonfiction stories , try and read the news paper but I wouldn't put much faith in that being true either. Some people need to learn to read and just enjoy it , relax and let go. The authors here don't make as much as you think , most of them do it because they enjoy it and their fans enjoy their work. So cut them some slack or let them know your secret when you write that book that pleases everyone and make your billions. This is for all of you people that nag about spelling and word usage and so on.Sorry but I'm done venting now.

I didn't like the book either but my problem was mostly with what I consider graphic torture of children.

I thought the author did a pretty good, if simplistic job of creating the world and the aliens but thought she went way over the top with the mistreatment of the kids. And yes, the sex was totally inappropriate.

I can't believe it is so highly rated either. So many people are okay with child torture?

I liked Forging Zero. I have only read the first book in the series, but I gave it 4 stars in early March. Since the aliens changed the children and forced them to mature physically their bodies were not those of children yet their minds in many ways were, including Joe's. I don't think the author was making a moral judgment that what happened was ok; I do think the author was writing about what does happen in that type of situation. I do intend to eventually read the read of the series.

I wrote in part of my review, "It is not an easy read. Within the story of Zero there is so much to think about in terms of our own world and methods. It is not meant for young people, but is for emotionally and mentally mature adults. "

The concepts of abuse, physical, mental, and emotional torture, used in training reminded me of F.M. Busby's Rissa and Tregare series.

There's a lot a didn't like about Joe Dobb but I think you made a couple of mistakes.

1. Joe wasn't always a coward. He saved a number of children, including his brother from the aliens.

2. If the girl could be still considered a child of six, than Joe is a pubescent boy and can't judged as an adult. So no, he wasn't a pedophile.

3. The prophecy didn't call him a hero. It just made him an agent of change. A child can't be expected to save even himself let alone humanity.
