British crime thriller, read between 2013 - 2016 (?), set in small british village, in the middle of a series (?), dog race track involved or dog cages at least, the autistic son in the car was key to solving the case

I really hope that I posted this correctly! I do not use this site often and this book has been eluding me for years by now!

Can you remember in what way the dog race track or cages were involved in the story? e.g. the dogs were stolen, or someone was using the race track as a location to deal drugs - what was the crime? Who is the main character - a detective? Whose son is autistic?

I don't really remember, that's the issue :(

I think a character may have been put into one of the cages? Maybe the inspector?

And I think the autistic son either saw something or remembered something.

If I could remember more it would ofc be easier but this was almost ten years ago so unfortunately it's very hazy!
