Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Well, it's not a comic! Stoopid people, lol.

I've been wanting to read Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking by Samin Nosrat , which is usually listed as a cookbook. It may have some recipes in the appendix, but it's a whole different thing altogether. So I've been waiting all year for a challenge-less period of time so I can read it without the headache of trying to justify it 😂

Zombie book is finally done. Not too heavy on the horror so it was ok.

The One-Armed Man (The Fugitive)
1 350 to 450
2 Contains a chase scene
3 Black and white on cover
4 MPG Suspense or Thriller
5 At least one arm on cover

message 654: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments blooming useless for my current book as per usual 😂

message 655: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I will be reading Unseen Academicals with lots of arms on cover, lol.

I read it once a long time ago, so I am not sure about any chasing scene... although if ball chasing counts, it could work ;)

message 656: by Sammy (last edited Nov 18, 2023 09:34AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I grabbed that one with a black & white cover.

Would we be able to get away with them chasing a football being a chase scene? 😂 I think we should!

message 659: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Typical. Read a book with cannibal in it yesterday!

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
argh! isn't that always the way!

message 661: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Yep, pretty much.

message 662: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Cactus Cat has sneaked away, La Lorona is here

1. 500 to 650
2. MC is a mother
3. TEARS in title
4. Set in Mexico or the Southwestern United States
5. Blue text on cover

message 663: by Melindam (last edited Nov 21, 2023 01:54AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I can take 4 with Emerald Blaze and Texas.

And unless someone else covets it, I can take MC is a mother as well.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I moved my suspense into the long page count space, but it can go back if someone else (Sammy?) has a long one too

Also stuck one of my other current books into the blue text on cover space, though it's likely to be Thursday before I finish it (it's slow reading and I'm out tonight)

message 665: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm on a 500-something-pager right now! :)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
and Babel - so good! hope you are enjoying it :)

message 671: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I am, though so far I enjoyed The Poppy War more. I do prefer the narration for Babel though.

All growed up indeed. And it's hard to tell who is more freaked out about that... him or me, lol.
It's compounded by the fact that I've been teaching him to cook recently. He said "At this rate I'll actually become a fully functioning human being one of these days". Then proceeded to dump all of his grubby clothes by my feet for me to wash. 😂

One battle at a time...

oh dear, so I shouldn't lose hope just b/c my almost-10-year-old has to be read the riot act for every single and -of course- impossibly difficult chore like "put away your toys" or (heaven fobid) "clean your teeth". 😂

message 673: by Sammy (last edited Nov 21, 2023 05:17AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I remember those days well, lol.

He went through a phase where he hated to have a bath or shower. I swear the neighbours thought we were murdering him judging by the shouting and screaming. Now he showers twice a day and hates being grubby 😂

Melindam | 8375 comments Just to warn you, we have finished off the Dr Who monster. Off to spin for a new one.

@Cat - some time (not super urgent) could you link the Dr Who wheel to the beginning of our thread? Please and thank you. 🥰

message 676: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Jagrafess

1. 500 to 650
2. "Satellite" in text
3. Purple and pink on cover
4. 5 in page count
5. Book has an editor credited on GRs

message 677: by Melindam (last edited Nov 21, 2023 05:44AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Yikes, but I can take 1 & 4 if needed (will just need a couple of days and 2 other books to get there)

message 678: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Oof! I'll take a closer look after I've finished Babel :)

message 679: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments For "satellite" can the plural be accepted?

Than I could cover 1, 4 & 3 with one book.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
we can move my suspense book in for 1, 2, 4.

The Elfor One (The Code Book 3) by R.R. Haywood purple & pink in the porthole image???

Cat, let's see who finishes their book first. :)

I will put my book in the notes slot only for the time being. I will need at least 3-4 days to get to it.

message 684: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I finished my suspense, and figured I'd leave where it was as that's a monster done.

New spin
Professor Moriarty (Sherlock Holmes)
1 350 to 450
2 MC is very smart
3 Set in the 1800s
4 Street on cover
5 2 in page count

message 685: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I put in The Unknown Ajax for the 1800s spot, but it's dispensable if sth comes up earlier for someone.

message 686: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I read a book which covers the trans task last night. gutted that it's east asian rather than south asian! 😢

message 687: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments In case someone has a book that would fit

"Set in Mexico or the Southwestern United States"

I could move Emerald Blaze to "extinct animal mentioned in text".

I just came across "pterodactyl". :)

message 688: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments If not, I will probably reread Ruby Fever as well, so I can cover SW US anyway. :)

message 689: by Sammy (last edited Nov 26, 2023 08:54AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I have one, but won't be reading it until we roll into december. if folk don't mind waiting for that, I can cover it, as I also need a Mexico book for another challenge.

(Actually the book I just started also is set there, but it has a lot of other places listed, so won't know until I finish it whether it's 50% or not)

message 690: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments OK, Sammy. We'll see who gets to it first. ;)

Moving Emerald Blaze to extinct animal slot.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
Finished off La llorona.

Got

Fur-bearing Trout
1 100 to 175
2 Setting is somewhere cold (your interpretation)
3 white cover (>50%)
4 Someone writes a letter/email
5 Author name starts with letter in TROUT

message 694: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I grabbed white cover and someone writes a letter tasks.

Three Holidays and a Wedding by Uzma Jalaluddin

sadly I don't see any pink or purple, but does the row of houses count for evidence of the snow-covered street?

otherwise, one of the author's is U, for initial in TROUT (plus cold setting). but I'd prefer street so we can dispose of that monster when I finish it this evening :D

message 696: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Yes from me. ;)

message 697: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments How about this one? I can definitely see purple, but not sure about pink?

The Great Christmas Knit Off by Alex Brown

message 698: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Yes for street.

I've got an ice hockey book so that will cover cold. Xavier Neal on KU is a useful author for spell outs

I see some of the letters in the title as pink ? so that'd be a thumbs u from me!

message 700: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Yes, I thought some of them may pass as dark pink, but I was not sure. :)

(plus it has "grunge" in text :D )
