YA/tween about popular guy whose friend helps him in school/class election against a girl, who also has her best friend helping her. Spoilers.

I read this book around 2010 (either late 2000s or, more likely, early 2010s). Not sure if it was newer or not, or if it was part of a series. I think it was probably young adult/tween, maybe about middle schoolers, high schoolers at the oldest. All I remember is that there are two girls who are best friends. One girl tries to help her friend compete in the class or school election. The rival is a popular guy whose quieter friend is working with him. I think it ends up being revealed that the two who were NOT running liked each other. Maybe the two who were running liked each other, too. I believe at the election speeches the guy friend tries but fails to warn his friend, who is running, that the girl who was running has decided her friend, who was helping her, would be better off being elected. Unfortunately, that’s all I remember. Any ideas?
