Kati Polodna (libraryladykati) | 5 comments I remember reading this when I was in my early teens, about 2000-2001, so it guessing it was published between 1990-1999. The book was about a late teenage-ish girl who goes to live with a relative, maybe an aunt or an older sister, but I don't remember why. She meets an "older" man, who I feel like is in his 30s or something, and he has a lot of books in his house (or it might be a bookstore). They develop feelings even though he's reluctant about it all and they sleep together. Then I feel like he leaves for some reason and the heroine copes with the loss of love by being all pensive and gloomily romantic about the secretive affair. I feel like my local library categorized this in YA, which was a big deal to me back then, but it also could have been regular fiction. It had a coming of age thing going for it. I also feel like the cover was in tones of light pinks and purples (and possibly this was set near an ocean or like Australia or England or Massachusetts or somewhere like that). Any help would be appreciated! I have googled this and tried searching Novelist without any luck. If anyone knows the book "Snowfall" by KM Peyton, it had a similar writing style and theme (and cover circa 1994). Thank you!

Moving to Unsolved.

What year or era is this set in?

Kati Polodna (libraryladykati) | 5 comments I feel like it is set between the 50s-90s. I recall a vintagey feel so I am leaning more toward 50s-60s.

Were there any supernatural elements?
Did any of the girl's friends or family members know about the relationship?
Did the girl become pregnant?

Kati Polodna (libraryladykati) | 5 comments No, unfortunately no supernatural elements, but the plot sounds like it's on the right track. It was definitely shelved in my library's adult fiction section since they didn't have YA but it could have leaned toward what we'd consider YA today (the sex scene was not explicit). I think her older female relation (maybe an older sister or young-ish aunt) knows about it, but her parent(s) are basically removed from the story. I'm almost positive she didn't become pregnant.

Rainbowheart | 28690 comments Kinda reminds me of A Little Love Song.

Most of the boxes tick off. Girl meets older man who runs a bookstore, he's reluctant, but they have an affair. There's sex, but she doesn't get pregnant. Girl is staying with her older sister in a cottage by the sea. Set during World War II. However, (view spoiler)

Kati Polodna (libraryladykati) | 5 comments I’ll have to try A Little Love! It’s been years since I read that book and the library doesn’t keep borrowing history for that long (darn!).
