This is currently on sale on audible this month! It has... not so good reviews though...

This was one of my first fantasy (non-little kid) audioboooks. I still have the cassette tapes. I remember the narrator being fine, but that's my inner 1980s teen talking.I think audible has a different narrator.
I didn't think these threads got made, over the summer...
Sorry for the confusion I caused, bringing up whether to make the threads, in the planning thread...
Spreadsheet snafu, on my part...

I might join in on this one too. It's been years since I've read this and it was the series that got me into fantasy
Like what? It was my first fantasy read. I loved these books and I made everybody I know read them and they all loved them too. It was a fun summer. I still have those old copies and they are beat to hell. Just like any loved books should be.
I’m a little nervous to do a reread. I know I’ve read so many better books since then and I’m afraid I’ll see the cracks this time around. 😬
I’m actually surprised my rating is only 4 stars. I read them before I joined Goodreads so they were an add and rate.

I had a HUGE crush on Raistlin. I’m curious to see if my older a wiser self feels differently.

I've never actually read any Dragonlance, though I've read the Death Gate Cycle by Weis & Hickman. Hoping I'll be able to join, but not sure if I'll do eyebook or brave the bad audio...

These were books, commissioned by Wizards of the Coast, to tell stories in the world of Dungeons & Dragons... there are a ton of trilogies set in this world/premise...
I believe the Dragonlance world is separate from the one with Drizzt Do'Urden... and that's about all I know...

I read a ton of the Dragonlance trilogies. But I didn’t like any of the ones not written by Weis and Hickman as a combo. I didn’t much like their solo stuff either.
Timelord Iain wrote: "I believe the Dragonlance world is separate from the one with Drizzt Do'Urden... and that's about all I know....."
Correct.
Dragonlance is set in the world of Krynn...(spelling?)
Drizzt's stories are part of the Forgotten Realms series, in the world of Faerun (again, spelling?)
Graeme wrote: "I may join in. But I'd like to know a bit more about this series?"Iain is partially right.
The Dragonlance universe was created by Laura and Tracy Hickman back in the 80's while on the way to a job interview for TSR (the company who owned the property before Wizards of the Coast bought it in 1997). D&D at the time had plenty of dungeons but not enough dragons! This trilogy was inspired by actual table top gaming done to create the game modules and flesh out the world. I don't remember the story about how Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis became writing partners, though they obviously did.
The trilogy is ultra classic 80's writing. Lots of things that were fresh back in the day and are now tropes so don't expect everything to be for modern sensibilities ;)
I’ve just ordered a new copy (the three in one omnibus was all I could get) as I discovered last year bookworms had got into my original trilogy.
Felina wrote: "Bookworms? Is that an actual thing?"Technically there isn't a species called 'bookworm' but various insects have a grub-like stage where they will eat paper like caterpillars will eat cabbages; my husband thinks they're woodworm from the Edwardian writing desk I had, but I think they're the grubs of these little moths that appear every spring/summer. They chomped their way through my Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books, as well as Pern and some of my Elric novels. Nothing valuable, but I think some are impossible to get new now and are going to be difficult to replace.
So I hate bookworm.
It could’ve been worse; it was upstairs where I had my TSR novels with a few others; most of my books are downstairs. If they’d munched through that lot, I would’ve been in tears. And my colleague at work thinks I’m crazy, because I was ranting about bookworm with some pretty foul language when I first discovered it!😄

OH I would never have guessed that. Thank you.
I am currently on Chapter 7 and really enjoying the story so far, getting to know the characters and the quest. I have not read these before.
I just finished. I read these over and over in highschool but aside from getting a few chapters in and then forgetting about it, I haven’t read them since. I had this rated as an 4 star but I loved these so I’m not sure why. This was so nostalgic! This was my first fantasy book and I remember having all my friends and cousins and my brother read it. They all loved it. I decided to write a fantasy novel with one of my friends and we mapped it all out and of course it went nowhere. It was a pretty good idea and we had the first 10 pages written and it wasn’t bad. Damn, good times. I remembered some things as I was reading but if you’d have asked me to give a brief overview before I read it, I don’t think I could have. Spoiler for future books (view spoiler)
Running really late on this, but I'm looking forward to it--I haven't read any Dragonlance, but I read the Death Gate Cycle by Weis & Hickman ages ago... I want to eye-read this but am going pretty slow on eye-reads right now...
Started last night....This is a reread for me, and I only had a few minutes before bed but raced through three chapters. Definite book candy.
I'm really tempted to reread this but I just don't have the time right now. I'll probably follow the discussion anyway though to see what everyone says.

Join us....
Just started this morning. The writing is nice and immersive so I think it'll be an easy one to fly right through.
