message 3: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Zylka (carriezylka) | 286 comments I mean - it's only been like 5 years or something ridiculous.....so I'm pretty proud of myself!

In the other contest we have 1200 words - trimming the fat to get it under 750 was tough!

Lol, Carrie! Nice to see you again! It hasn't been that long for me, but 8 months is a while! Finally got something up! Hope you like it! :)

message 5: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Zylka (carriezylka) | 286 comments I just looked - last story I wrote was October 2020. So not quite 5 years.
But too damn long, I'm making more of an effort to get back into the creative swing of things.
My story isn't the best, but a solid start.
I've missed this group and the stories!

message 6: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Zylka (carriezylka) | 286 comments Side note - since when did we stop posting the requirements?
I had to go back months to figure out if I had 700 or 750 words.
Could we start doing that again?
:)

Thanks, Tom! It was good to get something in this month. Seems like my scheduled has been crazy the past couple of years.

Jeremy McLain | 51 comments Well shoot, now I feel I have to get one in, as I’ve been slacking last couple years.

Welcome back, Carrie, Chris and Jeremy!!! I step out for a few days to an awesome surprise.

> Side note - since when did we stop posting the requirements?
Carrie, the "Contest Rules" are always posted as the top thread.

Quick update on my end. Still no job, but my database system is running. Can bombard it with millions of orders/transactions from multiple processes and threads in a very timely fashion. Have to run some speed tests once I work out a few more little kinks.

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Any company in need of competent tech help would be lucky to have you, Jot.

Thank you, sir. I feel I am in the midst of underapprieated and amazingly talented people. May you all reach your dream

message 20: by Justin (new)

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments So great to have many friendly faces back! I've been on jury duty since July 24! We just rendered a verdict: $5.5 million to the plaintiff for damages. Nothing like having a person's future in your hands. Very intense, covered a lot of ground medically, etc. I ended up being the presiding juror. It took us 2.5 hours to deliberate. I wanted to make sure we had a unanimous decision. A great experience, but it pulled me out of work just before my busiest week at Boeing. Anyway, maybe I should get a story in! Jot, so sorry the work has not panned out yet! Keep swinging!

message 21: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Congratulations on the completion of your civic duty, Justin, and on going above and beyond. (They settled after making us sit through 2 hours of pictures, documents and objections in my last stint of jury duty. 'Makes you wonder why they bothered to go to court.)

'Hope you get a story in.

No - it's only the theme and required elements. Not the dates for voting or word count etc.

You should check out Insight Global - it's where I work and I love it here.

message 25: by Jeremy McLain (new)

Jeremy McLain | 51 comments Speaking of Jury Dury there is a reality series on Prime (I think) that is called “Jury Duty”. Pretty funny. One of the jurors thinks it’s real but everyone else is an actor.

This thread (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) doesn't show up first on the contest page (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...) for you?

message 27: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Zylka (carriezylka) | 286 comments It does not.
But I use the app so maybe that's why

message 28: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Zylka (carriezylka) | 286 comments I can't insert an image, but this is what I see when I open the app and go to the group: http://huntfishtravel.com/wp-content/...

Jot Russell | 1709 comments Mod
Perhaps something weird with the app. A browser view should show it.

Posted mine. I had introduced "The Asian League" as an alternate-timeline nation in my Perpetual Words of Hatred novel as adversary against the religion-neutral utopia that the villain of the story was trying to create. Here it's based on a potential future of a Chinese-Russian union that expands across the greater part of Asia.

message 31: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments I read the reviews on Perpetual Words of Hatred on Amazon. Congratulations on the high ratings, Jot.

still waiting on Carrie and McLain's vote.

message 37: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Zylka (carriezylka) | 286 comments Sorry - Left Barbados yesterday morning at 5:00am - delayed flights and extra long layovers caused my to get home later than I thought (today at about 4pm.)

I am reading through them now and will vote within the hour - my apologies for the delay!
