I bet it did!

I am eager to read this but I have never read David Copperfield."
I don't think that is critical, but you might not catch the full depth of what was accomplished by author if original influence unfamiliar.. What I think you should do is stream the excellent 2 part adaptation of David Copperfield the BBC aired about 25 years ago. Not only will it give you the basics, but you get to see the first acting job for a very young Daniel Radcliffe that led to his being discovered and cast as Harry Potter. He is wonderful as young David Copperfield, totally upstaging the older actor who played the mature David.
In fact, rather than reread the book, which I read and reread several times when young, I will also be streaming it. Then jumping on Demon Copperhead.

Yes ... I also like how the colors of the sign mimic our three books in our group avatar.

Jen, I’ve been reading this and I just decided I have to stop. I know I’ve read sadder stories in my life, but the misery is getting to me right now. I saw the film long ago, and I read another dust bowl book, so I know what’s coming, and I’m already feeling mad about it.

Oh dear, thanks for the head's up Nancy!! I have it now but have a few library books to turn to ahead of this one. We will see how I'm feeling at that point.

I think it was the other book I’m reading for my book club that put me in a bad mood. The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture is making me feel angry, depressed and guilty all at the same time. He doesn’t just blame greedy big corporations, he blames every lazy one of us who would rather buy things than do for ourselves. I usually like environmental books, but this one hits hard right from chapter one.

Yes, great idea to watch David Copperfield and Daniel Radcliffe is adorable. Many famous actors are in the cast. Maggie Smith plays his aunt, so they knew each other before HP.

Ok, I thought I'd given it 5 stars. Yes, I did. Hope you like it (and do decide to continue on to try some of the others, especially "The Climb"!)
