David | 1 comments The book was about children/adults (I cannot remember which) who pilot mechanical insects, for example one character flies a bee. They fly them like planes. I read this book in the range of 2014-2018. I believe it was also a series. I think that the characters flew the insects to fight evil insects? And there were giant insects. I will update if I remember anything else.

Emilie's suggestion of The Dreamwalker's Child by Steve Voake looks very promising. There are different cover images.

Kirkus Review:
- "Sam Palmer seems like an ordinary kid, with a more than ordinary interest in insects, when an accident puts him into a coma. But only his body is in the hospital; he has been transported into a parallel universe where he is pursued by the ultimate evil, rescued time and again by a smart-mouthed girl named Skipper and has to become a fighter pilot to save his own world from being invaded by squadrons of killer mosquitoes. ..."
