LaurLa | 3905 comments Hi all! I'm looking forward to getting started. I played for a couple weeks at the end of the last round to fill in for someone who needed to drop out but this will be my first time playing from the beginning.

What does everyone like to read? I'm mostly (okay, almost completely) a romance reader but will break out hear and there if I need to for a challenge or a book looks really interesting.

Where are you all from? I'm in middle america in Indiana which puts me in the eastern time zone. I am so glad winter has finally broken its hold over us but the past 2 winters have convinced me that I will be retiring (someday) to a southern state (read WARM!!!).

For a name, do we want to go with something completely obvious like the Dirty Dozen... or maybe the Not-so-Dirty Dozen? But any name works for me, I'm easy!

message 7: by Julie (new)

Julie | 213 comments I'm fine with whatever name floats everyone else's boat.

I live in Utah. I will read almost anything, but am not too wild about horror. I have noticed recently I have read a lot of young adult.

I am looking forward to having fun with this game.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ (wolffaerie17) | 2160 comments I live in Pennsylvania. I like the name Not so Dirty Dozen!
I pretty much read all genres with the exception of biographies~ I need to like the person featured. I can be captain if no one else wants too.

Review: For me this is one of the more emotionally rending books in the series. It is difficult to see a character who has been established as strong almost to the point of indestructible, at least in some areas as Eve, brought as low as Eve is in this story. It does show the support system which has been established around her and what those people would be willing to do for her.

Book: Dancing With Danger (Dancing Moon Ranch, #8) by Patricia Watters

Review:
I have a real love-hate thing going with this author. A few books ago I had a real issue with how she treated a character and it has colored my reading of subsequent books. Though the last 2-3 books have not sparked the anger in me that the one particular book did, I still think that experience has affected how I 'hear' this author now. What I have 'heard'/read from the author is judgement on a person who chooses to engage in casual sex. Real judgement, as in this is not a good person or a person worthy to have someone love them. I don't know if it's distance from the book that angered me so much, but this particular book seemed to be less judgemental which is what made me think maybe my reading of the previous couple was colored by my anger. Enough about that and on to this book in particular.

This book was a continuation of an issue brought up in the previous book about the dangers of bull-riding and bull-fighting and the heroines' inability to accept the importance of these things in the hereos' lives. I didn't particularly like how it was handled in the previous book and all through this book I felt like it might go the same way, that is, to force the hero to give up the sport, his dream and something he's worked all his life towards. I have to admit that the author actually did a better job explaining the hero's thought process from the last book in this book (which makes me feel better about THAT couple's HEA). And in the end, I felt really good about how the issue was handled for this couple. I believed in their HEA and actually liked how things ended up for them.

The heroine in this book was a bit wishy washy, giving mixed signals to the hero. She didn't want to be attracted to or fall for him because of his profession but we were supposed to believe that their physical connection/chemistry was so great that she couldn't help herself around him, thus the mixed signals. The problem was that I didn't feel this connection between them. The author told us all about it but I never felt it. And even though the smexy times weren't behind closed doors or even fade to black, they were vague and barely described, so they didn't really add to my belief that these two were so strongly attracted to each other.

The descriptions of bull-fighting were very interesting, added something extra to the book and made me care about the hero.

Not sure why I keep reading this series since I don't particularly like the author's voice, other than maybe curiousity on how the next one will go. Plus they're there, on my TBR... I don't know. This one was less slut-shaming than those in the past and handled the issue of giving up a dream for love better than the previous book, so maybe I have hope I truly enjoy the next one.

Review: This book is about 4 women who come together to spend a month on a remote island near Nantucket. Birdie is divorced and has just started a romance with an attentive, but married, man. Her sister India, a widow, is contemplating undertaking a romantic relationship with a much younger woman. Birdie’s daughter, Chess, is reeling from the death of her ex-fiance. Birdie’s other daughter, Tate, is hoping to hook up with the island’s caretaker, whom she has been in love with for 13 years. This is a great beach read that I found hard to put down. I wouldn’t exactly call this “chick lit,” but if you like that genre you’ll probably like this. A friend of mine gave me this book and it’s just been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years. I’m glad I finally read it and I’ll definitely read more from this author.

Book: Sea of Suspicion (East Coast of Scotland, #1) by Toni Anderson
Read: 03.29.15
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
Very enjoyable read. There was enough suspense to keep you guessing throughout but you also never forgot this was, at its heart, a romance.

As for the suspense part of the story, I half guessed the ending correctly. Or should I say, I went where the author directly led me and didn't have a clue about the killer - whether the author was that good or I was that clueless, I don't know. But it made for a good reading experience for me, so I guess it doesn't matter!

As for the romance, it was a bit predictable but I still liked the interactions between the MCs and they both helped each other heal from their various scars, though he took a bit longer to accept himself and his past than did she.

Review: It seems like I'm the last person on Earth to read this. Any time I start a new series that has a lot of hype, I am pretty wary since I've been burned many times. I'm happy to say that I fully enjoyed this book! Harry Dresden is a private investigator who also happens to be a wizard. The Chicago PD calls him in to investigate a gruesome murder involving what appears to be black magic. While searching for the killer, Harry encounters demons, fairies, vampires and other magic practitioners. He also quite often finds himself on the receiving end of an a$$ whooping. This book has non-stop action and is a quick read. I will definitely move on to the next in the series to see what Harry does next.
