Read somewhere between 2012 and 2017 - two children go to a island and discover that the children there have been turned to stone by (I think) fairies(?) and forgotten about by their parents and families.

The children arrive on the island by plane or boat and are told by their aunt that they are the only children on the island and nobody have had children on the island for ages. There’s a school on the island that looks abandoned but new. The book is set in modern dad. Outside people’s houses there are statues of children playing or sitting some statues inside I assume. I think the main character discovers a blocked off room in one of the houses (I think the police chief’s home but I might be wrong) and discovers a girls bedroom. I think her brother gets turned to stone as well and forgotten. But at the end of the book all the children return to normal and the fairies (or whatever they are) are defeated or agree peacefully.

It was a children’s book I got from a library in Scotland between 2012 and 2017. Didn’t have any pictures, but I don’t remember it being particularly long.

Any help would be much appreciated as I’ve been trying to find it for years.
