Serenity Better Days (Serenity, #2) by Joss Whedon
Serenity: Better Days follows everyone's favorite space cowboys in a thrilling, action-packed adventure, where Mal and his crew take on a heist that promises a big payoff. But when one of Serenity's crew is taken captive and tortured, the gang must put their enduring differences aside and work together to save one of their own, even if it means losing the cash prize of a lifetime!

Janina (sylarana) | 692 comments I read this a while ago, but I'm just not a fan of the series. I dislike the illustration (some I found downright awful) and the story doesn't manage to capture my interest. This one was of much lesser quality than the first book. I don't think they are able to capture the spirit of the TV series at all.

Oh dear, I didn't mind the first one but it didn't blow me away either. I was hoping for improvement ......

Ah well, I shall have to see for myself.

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments I guess I am the odd man out on this one.

I loved it. I thought that the primary story, Better Days, really captured the episodic nature of the television show and further built upon the end of the show. I thought the artwork was fantastic.

My favorite story was Downtime. (view spoiler)

I actually appreciated the differences of varying authors and artists from story to story. While each artist had their own way of capturing the cast and action, I thought all of them did it well.

Just finished it, not a fan I'm afraid .... way too choppy and disjointed for me.

Hey Valerie, I'm right there with you in feeling like the odd man out! For a comic book, I think the story was well constructed, and true to the style and content of the actual TV series. I must admit that some of the artwork was distracting to me - I like the characters to look consistent, and preferably like the actual actors they were based on. :)

That said, I will admit again to being a BIG Firefly fan (as well as Joss Whedon fan), so I loved it!

And if you are a fan, don't forget to check out Alan Tudyk's and Nathan Fillion's new venture together, a web series called Con Man (loosely based on actors that were on a sci fi series that got cancelled first season, and one goes on to fame and fortune, sound familiar?) They are doing a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. I can't wait!

:)
