I’m currently reading “the thicket” although I’m not enjoying it as much as I hoped I would! 🤔

I finally read Wool. Had the book sitting on a shelf for far too long. It was yet another book I wish I had read sooner. Enjoyed the story and want to read the other two in the series.

Oooooo I started that one a while ago and ended up giving up on it. It may have been bad timing for me to start a book or maybe the book just wasn't for me. Looking forward to your thoughts!
I finished The Long Walk and Kindred for the first time this weekend and loved both. Currently reading Summer Sons but I'm honestly a little bored by it.
The Lonely Lands by Ramsey Campbell
-This is the latest novel from the master of horror Ramsey Campbell and it shows that he is still at the height of his powers. This one put me a little in mind of Richard Mathison's What Dreams May Come. Scares, darkness and heart all combine in this superb novel

I’m starting this today!

Enjoy!
Currently reading Little Heaven by Nick Cutter. Has anyone read this one ? I’m almost done and Jesus 🙃. I am such a fan of his, the way he describes his “monsters” and the body horror is out of this world.

Mister Magic I loved this and it was supposed to be horror - but was more so speculative fiction? Very disappointing in a way even if I liked the book a lot, because it on a very favorite creepypasta of mine - Channel Zero
Just finished Maggie's Grave by David Sodergren. Trying to decide what's next: Last House on Needless Street or The Troop...
I started Every summer after by Carley Fortune. When I don't really know what to read I turn to easy contemporary apparently...
Finished The Exorcist and (I know I'm in the minority) was completely underwhelmed by it. Except for a few good moments with the priest and the demon, the writing is dry as toast.
I just finished "Confessions of a mask" by Yukio Mishima, it was my first time reading one of his books, I'm definitely gonna read more

There were some parts between the demon and the priest where I was metaphorically clutching my pearls, but otherwise it was just draagginggg. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to think so.

I'll give the movie makers credit for sticking to the storyline pretty closely and creating a great movie. But the book's writing style and dialogue were terrible, and there was too much filler that didn't add to the story or characters.
Still, this was better than the book Jaws. Now that was a horrible mess of a novel that somehow got turned into a great movie (one of my all-time favs).

I am starting Sour Candy
today. I've heard it mentioned a few times and decided to give it a go. I just finished The Hunting Party
I know it's not horror, but I thought I would mention it because I really enjoyed it. If you haven't heard of it, this book is a murder/mystery and one of the best things about it is you don't even know who DIED until almost the end!
Just finished Pet Sematary. I don't know what I'll start next but it's going to be trashy. Maybe one of those giant crab books.
Currently suffering through a first read of Dracula to pair it with Reluctant Immortals by Gwendolyn Kiste. Has anyone ACTUALLY read Dracula? Despite loving everything it spawned, it’s just slow and boring to me for some reason.

I ended up really liking it by the end, but I will also freely admit to scanning some of the long chunks of dialogue because certain parts were so slow 😅

I've read Dracula twice and really love it. But I can understand how someone would not like the writing style as it tends to be very different from today's styles. It's still one of those books that I think every horror fan should read just to get the original Dracula story instead of the millions of other versions of it.

WendyB wrote: "Finished The Exorcist and (I know I'm in the minority) was completely underwhelmed by it. I didn't find it scary at all. I do like the book for Legion a little more. But it has also been years since I read it.
Just finishedSour Candy
I really enjoyed it. Quick easy read. Definitely will stick with me for a while!
Currently reading/finishing Nightwhere by John Everson who did a question and answer on the Goodreads horror group; it was fascinating and the book is about a BDSM sex club that's really a horror club (or world, not sure!).And listening to the Terror by Dan Simmons, really amazing writing with historical context as it's about a ship stuck in the ice and the reality of that horror and the horror of a beast that seems to be hunting them....perfect for these hot summer days!
