I know that isn't the one I'm thinking of, but I'm pretty sure my Dad read that series to me as a child! It's just so familiar! Definitely going on my reading list.
@Jessica
Looking up more on this one has pretty much convinced me that this is the book! I'll be more certain once I get a chance to raid the local library, though, at which time I'll update the thread!
Darling, I'm moving your request to the "Possibly Solved" folder. If you find "The Gift" isn't your book, we'll move your request back to the "Unsolved" folder. Good luck!

I completely forgot I had a post here that I never updated. Yes Rainbowheart, it turns out that was the book I was looking for! I was very thankful to finally have that little mystery solved, and it was a very nostalgic reread from what I remember.
I am sorry I forgot to update and move this topic to the solved section, I'll be doing that now and moving this post to Solved: YA.
Thank y'all for your time and help, even if I'm several years forgetful! ♥

I remember that the main character is male, and he meets the main heroine while he's traveling. For one reason or another (that has something to do with the heroine being magic) he takes her with him.
They go through a cave, I believe, and get attacked. I don't know by what, but my brain is telling me giant cat. Most likely not, but I'll role with it. They live and make it to the main male's home.
Then the period scene happens. The heroine, who apparently had been seriously under weight, finally eats enough to be healthy. Which means, taadaa, she finally gets her period. Now, since she has no idea what a period is she sees the blood and thinks she is dying, cue her screaming and main male bursting in, only to find mostly naked and distressed main girl. She clings to him and wants to know why she is dying, he calls for some older lady and absconds the situation.
I can't for the life of me remember anything else from the book. I was pretty sure the title had something to do with fire, like fire-flowers or fire-birds or something along those lines.
