SOLVED. YA book, sort of Fantasy Dystopia. Female protagonist. Aliens/parasites living in certain people? [s]

I have a vague memory of reading this book, but I cant remember anything about it. I thought it was called "The 5th Element" but when I google it is isn't. I read it back in like 2013.

Main character is a teenage girl, there are some sort of parasitic alien that tajes control over certain people's minds. This might have been made into a film a few years ago?
