"I may give you some more details I remember. In a village lives a boy with a family and a sorceress came there, she has a drum with snakes turning and tumbling inside and a boy is a rare person who's able to see them inside and that's why she bought him from his family for...small amount of coin and makes him her apprentice. She travels with many people and she's a protector there, they rae going back to some city, on the way there a girl (a princess in disguise) teaches him to write and read, she and him become friends and close and find an egg, a boy touch it and he bonds with it, it htches and it is a tiny red ..dragon!?! He calls it Red. On the way to the city he makes friends with one blond young great warrior and another boy. Some so called priests attck them...Princess is coming back from some pilgrimage....her I think lady in waiting is acting as her and was..poisoned, anyway, they come to the city, he lives in a ..castle and gt education..he's rare to see...runes...that's it. He and Red pf course are close....phew...all can remember, certainly for YA...but book no 1 was good, the second tooooo childish till the end."
