"Hey, I'm right! Look, Rachael. Look at the first letter of each word. R for rock, O for ourglass, S for shell, and E for elephant. It spells Rose! That's a clue!"

30 Mar 2023 — She is stealing things to try to spell out her name— she took the hourglass because the H is silent and so she thought it started with an O.

Early middle grade chapter book about two kids in a haunted house. I don't think they knew it was haunted. I think maybe it was a hotel that they were visiting with their family or something, or maybe a new house? First they see a rope jumping on its own, then I think there is something strange about a clock or hourglass. They realize that the ghost is using items to spell out her name, which is R-O-S-E. (R for rope, etc.) I remember that one of the kids proposes this idea, but the older one tells him/her, that the word "HOUR" (the clue from the second haunted item) is spelled with an H, not an O. Eventually, they realize that the ghost is so young, she thought "HOUR was spelled with an O, too. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the third and fourth haunted items (the 'S' and the 'E') were. I read a lot of Apple paperback and scholastic mysteries when I was a kid. I am CERTAIN that the ghost was a young girl, and that her name was Rose. I don't remember what the living kids' names were.
It wasn't a big series like Babysitters club, boxcar children, Nancy Drew, etc.
Thanks for your help!
