James Seger (jseger9000) | 3 comments I read this short story in a high school English book. This would have been late eighties, but I believe the story was written in the '70's.

The story is from the first person point of view of a house breaker. I remember he drives a van with magnetic signs on the sides. He would put a different sign on each side so that neighbors wouldn't describe the same van. On one side, he has a sign for a phony security company called Bulldog Security.

He breaks into a house and finds a typewriter with a script in it. I remember that he doesn't describe the story being written, but mentions it would be the type of story you would see on Rod Serling's Night Gallery. This was the first I had ever heard of Night Gallery, so I especially remember this. Also, Night Gallery is a blip compared to Twilight Zone, so the story must have been written around the time Night Gallery was on (1970-73).

From there, memories are sketchy. I believe the thief leaves story suggestions for the scriptwriter. I seem to remember the thief returns to the house several times. At one point, the scriptwriter has a Bulldog Security sign in his yard and knows the scriptwriter is messing with him.

I would love to read this story again.
