Brooke | 145 comments Well for starters you need to read Harry Potter and Percy Jackson before anything then after maybe read Legend, that’s a good easy read series.
Romance: Better Than The Movies, The Cheat Sheet, 5 Feet Apart
Fantasy/Dystopian: Keeper Of The Lost Cities, Lunar Chronicles, Shadow and Bone, Six Of Crows
Those are just from the top of my mind and I didn’t read all of those but y’a I heard those are good and all of those are appropriate for 13/14 year olds if you wanted to know

LocalBookNerd | 48 comments Personally I wouldn’t recommend Legend series. It’s very overhyped in my opinion. I would recommend another one of Marie Ali’s series, like The Young Elites

message 6: by Summer (new)

Summer | 16 comments The Caraval Series. It's just three books and they were fun.

Isabella Hernandez | 2 comments The Folk of the Air trilogy is what got me into read so def recommend!
Also recommend any of the books from the Grishaverse
(Shadow&Bone, Six ofCrows, King of Scars)

message 11: by Olivia (new)

Olivia | 15 comments I definitely recommend the keeper of the lost cities. It is a long book with I believe 9 books and a 10th coming out soon (as well as a half book with a 200 mini story at the end), I find it’s very fast paced and an easy starter. This book also has no spicy scenes so it’s good for starting if you don’t know how comfortable you are with that kind of stuff, anyways highly recommend!!

message 18: by Rylee (new)

Rylee | 16 comments ACOTAR!!! The books are very large but the writing is so good, you'll fly through it! I highly highly highly recommend!

message 19: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn | 611 comments I think a really good “starter” would be the Off Campus series! Starting with “The Deal”
It’s got good plot and a fair amount of light spice that isn’t potentially overwhelming for a “beginner” 🫶

message 20: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessicasayers) | 24 comments Shatter me is a good series if you haven’t read any fantasy/dystopian books before, although it is quite a long series.

If want a shorter one, Shadow and bone is alright though not my favourite- six of crows is better!

message 21: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (hayleywilson) | 96 comments I know she's controversial, but Colleen Hoover books are easy and addicting. I'd recommend Ugly Love, Verity, or Reminders of Him.

message 32: by lieke (new)

lieke | 10 comments Well first I would say, never start with Colleen Hover books, because they’re not a form of escapism, they’re a form of realism. And escapism is what makes books and reading so addictive.

Second off all I would start with popular good rated books of social media. Don’t worry to be “basic” because those books are popular for a reason!!

Some other books I would really recommend are the Harry Potter series, The Hunger Game series, And The Maze Runner series!! These are really great examples of escapism books!! And also, they have movies, which will encourage you to finish the books, because you could watch the movie after (:

Last I would recommend you to read as many different genres as possible, so you can decide what you like and what you don’t like. And if you don’t like a genre, don’t immediately quit on reading because you didn’t like 1 book. Use it as an experience!! And talk about it with people on forums like this to share your opinion (:

I hope this helped you!!
