Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments The wonderful Lynn has spotted a solution to the sudoku and EK you are good to go for this round. As discussed, the only requirement for reviewing your book will be on Goodreads as you are not on Amazon, but if people happen to be able to review it on another site as you are wide, that is lovely, but not required.

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Laura, I apologize. I'm not able to fit you in this time.

There is also an IN this world round open and a clean round that are looking for a few more people, if you have a book that fits in either of those categories.

message 56: by Kat (new)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Balroop has left to join a different round. KT, this means I can now fit you into this round if you still wish to join.

Lynn Helton (slynnhelton) | 477 comments Just a note... K.T. has already reviewed my book for this round, but I do have another novella (~26,000 words) that she can review: Trial and Tribulation, the companion story to Trial Run.
Lynn

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments We just need two more people for this round to start, so if anyone knows someone from another writer circle who has written a novella and wants to try out our reading rounds, spread the word!

Joseph Carrabis (josephcarrabis) | 117 comments Kat wrote: "We just need two more people for this round to start, so if anyone knows someone from another writer circle who has written a novella and wants to try out our reading rounds, spread the word!"

I have an 18.9k word scif piece. Is that too short? If that's an okay length, my possible conflicts would be Lynn Helton and PL Tavorina (that I know of) and haven't read either of their offerings (that I remember).

Jeff Chapman (jeffchapman) | 190 comments Mod

Joseph has reviewed PL Tavormina and been reviewed by Lynn Helton.

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Joseph, I wish I could fit you in, but I don't have much wiggle room with the top half of the board. New rounds will hopefully open soon so keep an eye out!

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Thank you, Jeff :).

P.L. Tavormina | 284 comments My notes agree with Joseph. He reviewed two of my books-- in round 315 and round 330, but not this new release.

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Hi all! So it's been a month since we opened this round. We still have two spots left to fill.

In thinking about how to move things along, we kind of have two main options...

1) Wait a little while longer to see if anyone with a novella will take the last two spots. If you know of people in another writing circle who might want to participate, do spread the word!

2) Change the round to a general round, which will fill the last two spots more quickly. The disadvantage of this option is that some people will be required to read 1-2 full length books rather than all novella length books.

3) Option three is to disband the round if it ultimately proves unable to fill... but I wouldn't want to consider this option unless we had gone for at least two months and the round had proven unviable. I do think that now that we're at the one month mark, we're at the point where we need to look at options one or two and take the group's temperature, whether we want to wait a while longer, or open the round to general books.

Thoughts?

message 68: by Kat (new)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments Option four (PL came up with this) is that we could compact the round down to an 8 person round rather than a 10 person round.

In this scenario, each person would review only 3 books instead of 4, but they would all be novella books. I just checked shelves, and I believe if I just take out the two blank spaces, the current order works as is.

The advantage of this option is we would be able to start the round immediately and have a working order and the round is full. The disadvantage is, everyone only gets 3 reviews instead of 4.

I don't have a dog in this fight, so I am also okay with just waiting for a while to see if the round fills to 10.

message 69: by K.T. (new)

K.T. Munson | 175 comments I vote option 4, I love this idea and am happy with 3 reviews instead of 4!

Please tell me if you have reviewed any of the THREE people above you on the list (the list wraps around so (8) is 'above' (1) ). Please also check that if you have already reviewed any of the THREE people 'below' you on the list, they have more books available that you have not yet reviewed.

Remember you're SENDING your book to the four names above you (the list wraps so 10 is above 1) -- and you're RECEIVING books from the four names below you on the first post of the thread.

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reads/reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their readers in a format the reviewer can manage.

Everyone must be able to provide and accept PDF. You may buy or borrow the books you are due to read if you wish, and I’m sure the author will appreciate the verified review, but IT IS NOT COMPULSORY. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines.

All reviews must be posted to GR. We also encourage members to post on Amazon. When you have posted your reviews, please post the links to each of your reviews, not the book page in this thread.

The mod of each round will record whether members have posted reviews on Amazon and for the good of all, members who persistently fail to post reviews or DNF reviews to Amazon, will find mods less than willing to add them to subsequent groups.
Postings to other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.
To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum).

Setting up and modding these rounds is a labour of love, with a lot of emphasis on the ‘labour’. If you want to show appreciation for all the hard work we admins put in for the group, you could download one of our books as a ‘thank you’.

Happy reviewing, everyone :)

Kat (katwiththehat) | 2277 comments GUIDE FOR THOSE NEW TO THESE ROUNDS.

Quick 'start-up' summary for anyone new who might be scratching their heads. You are reviewing the four books 'below' you on the list.

You can, of course, choose to buy any or all of the books or read the books on KU, if you are a subscriber and the books are available there. If you can buy it adds weight to your review as it gives the 'Verified Purchase' stamp on Amazon.

However, as not everyone can buy, you should PM the four people who will be reviewing you (the four above you on the original list of names) through their Goodreads author pages. Click on the down arrow beside the 'Follow Author' button under their picture and it opens a menu which will allow you to message them.
Ask what kind of file they would like or say you can only offer PDF.
Don't forget to ask where to send it so they can give you their email.
The four people who you are reviewing should be in touch with you in a similar way.

Please make sure you have exchanged ALL FOUR books - or have been assured by your reviewers they will buy your book or read it through KU - as soon as possible.

Some people read fast and it can be very frustrating to have to wait a long time to get hold of a book you are committed to review.

Don't forget to post the links to your reviews here so you can be signed off for them.

Please post your review to Goodreads, your own Amazon store and any other Amazon stores you might have access to as well.

The wonderful Jeff Chapman will be modding this round. Please PM him ongoing with any issues. Thanks.

Denis Roubien | 106 comments To those who review me: My book will be set for free from Monday, June 19, 2023, 12:00 AM PDT to Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 11:59 PM PDT at this link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BFCZ83VP
This is the link for amazon.com, as I see that all three of my reviewers are in the US, but it will be free on all amazon marketplaces.

Lynn Helton (slynnhelton) | 477 comments For the three books I'm reviewing, I am grabbing them through KU.

For those reviewing me, my book's available through KU, if you have that and want to use it. I can also provide a pdf copy and will message within the next couple of days to make arrangements for that, if you like. (Sorry, I've got a crazy-busy couple of days here - and gotta run!)

I'll be running a 99c sale on Vengeance in July, but the date is not yet set. If you'd like to wait for the sale, I can give you the date as soon as I have it. Otherwise look for a mail from me in the next day or two to swap emails etc for the PDF.

Oh, it's on KU as well.
