► UNSOLVED: One specific book > YA Apocalyptic Sci Fi. Bug-like aliens are our new overlords and there's a group of humans living survivalist-style underground by the end. Teen guy (protagonist) is mostly concerned with his girlfriend. Read around 2016-2017.

Nora | 3 comments Protagonist is a teen guy who's mostly concerned with his developing relationship with his girlfriend. I remember there's a recurring bit about her saying "I love you" and him replying with "I love you" without saying "too," because he thinks "too" sounds less sincere. Deeply weird book, I think he had a whole sister-wife thing going by the end.

Nope, nobody here responded and I have mostly surrendered to that one being lost to the sands of time.

That's why we advise people to bump their threads every few months. It gets new members looking at them. It's hard to get suggestions on your thread when it falls so far down in the queue.

Google Books preview of Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith- Marz's suggestion:

https://books.google.com/books?id=VJg...
There are different cover images.

Quote from the book:
- Everyone knows I love you, too does not mean I love you. The too makes it a concession, a gesture, an instinct of politeness. History lesson for the morning.
