Linda | 9 comments Read the book in the years around 1993 - 1997. It was written to help children deal with their parents' divorce. The main character is a boy around 10 years old and you could tell the story took place in the UK as the boy referred to his mother as "mum", called soccer "football" and his uniform was called his "football kit". In the story, the father moves out of the home, the boy is sad at school, and his friends try to cheer him up. His father brings his new girlfriend to the boy's soccer game and his mother has her friend (I think his name is Joe) there as well. The boy realizes that both his parents love him, that he will still spend time with both of them, and that everything and everyone will be alright. My son who is 35 remembers this book fondly and we'd like to find it for his own 2 1/2 year old son now that his own parents are splitting up.

At the weekend, Dad took me shopping to buy me some new football kit. It was the day before the last match of the season, and I was starting to feel nervous and excited.

“Joe! Joe! Over here!” It was my Dad. He was with Anne.

“Come and have a pizza with us afterwards!” shouted Dad. “Great!” I called. “See you later!” Then I saw Mum. She was with her friend Mark.

Linda | 9 comments That is the EXACT story that I and my son remember. As this is a common title, do you have any idea of who the author might be? Or any ideas about how I might find the book? Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help.
