Want to read something from a book list outside of our monthly group reads? Let us know what you will be reading and find some friends to read along with you. New threads will be created when at least two people will be reading the same book at the same time.

Buddy Reads - I've seen these mentioned in other groups, but I have never participated or even looked into one. I got the impression on one group page that the Buddy Reads protocol, while not necessarily strict, does have a set process more than just reading a book that someone else is also reading and talking about it. Is there a more to a buddy read than the basics?
I've seen formal and informal varieties, with formal buddy reads including discussion questions and sometimes strict start and end dates. I'm thinking of these as more informal so for example..You: I want to read Finnegan's Wake again because I love James Joyce.
Person 1: I would love to read that, too.
Person 2: Me too! When should we start?
You: How about next week? How does March 17 sound?
Person 1: Great! I will get the book from the library!
Person 2: I own a copy because Joyce is amazing and I read his books ALL THE TIME!
You: Sounds great!
From there I can make a thread for it, or you can, whatever.... I'll add a folder called Buddy Reads and we can add topics with the name of the book and the start date. Then, others can jump in and join the conversation as well.
You can take it wherever you want to go from there. For example, you could ask what others thought of a chapter or scene, how they like the characters, etc. Or you could just talk about how much you love or hate it so far.....
Midnight's Children anyone? It's on just about every list and it's been sitting patiently on my shelf for about a year now.
I would b up for Midnight's Children....maybe come fall. I got a ton of stuff I want to read this spring and summer
If we ever decide to go with Watchmen, I am interested, but right now I am staring down the barrel of an Infinte Jest . . .
Probably a little late, but Watchmen has been on my to be read pile for quite a while now, and I'd love to buddy read it!
Okay Matthew and Suzan. We have three people ready to go on it. Justin, Mr. Mod, will you please set up a BR thread for Watchmen? Pretty Please.
I am picking up Watchmen today at the library.
Where has Justin gone? I have not seen him on Goodreads for a bit.

You guys can still set up the buddy read. If you open the Members folder you will see ' new topic' just on the right.
It depends on the group. With some groups you are not allowed to make be threads. The mods control it. Other groups they don't mind if members make the threads. This one id so new, we don't know the rules yet. :)
Yeah, Justin seems pretty chill, so it is probably no big deal - but since it is his new it will probably make him happy to be wanted. :)
Watchman Buddy Read - potential break down schedule:
12 Chapters - I am cool with one or two a week. Since I am always reading so many other books, I don't mind taking my time with this (also, I have another Buddy Read starting on Monday). I actually would probably vote for one a week starting this Sunday with discussion on that chapter lasting the entire week - moving to a new chapter and discussion each Sunday (trying not to read ahead if possible!)
If we decide on two chapters a week, same format, just 6 weeks instead of 12.
Thoughts?
I have the book so I am ready to start this Sunday!

I don't mind one or two chapters a week starting Sunday. It gives time for the thread too. If I read more I will just make notes to not get ahead.
I have my copy too, so Sunday's fine for me too, and as I'm currently in the middle of MAfinals, I'm very much okay with taking our time!
I am posting two books I'd love to do BRs for. Might take it slow with these two books, since they are chunky.
- Very different style of horror story. It's almost documentary style but builds and builds. It's best to have physical copy of the book because of all the extras on the pages.
- Japanese book. Has lots of names and I've been taking major notes on this because it can get confusing. It's an awesome movie and it's the original idea of Hunger Games. They totally ripped off this book. I love this movie!
Battle Royal has been on my shelves for ages now, I'd love to buddy read it! Maybe then it's a little bit less intimidating (both size and the number of Asian names have been scaring me away)I've also been wanting to read House of Leaves for a while now but I don't own a copy yet, so I guess I'm not in for that just yet.
There was a lot of interest in Dead Wake in our last poll - any interest in a buddy read in February?

Checking in again . . . I am probably going to do this as an audiobook in February. I can go it alone, but since there were several votes, I just want to double check the possibility for a buddy read.

Who is up for a Joy Luck Club Buddy Read in July? Eileen has already shown interest and I am planning to read it.
I know it was a close second in our poll, so maybe others out there ready to read it, too?
