    Spring 23 Read-a-Thon: Team Chanel

I hope to finish There Are Places in the World Where Rules Are Less Important Than Kindness: And Other Thoughts on Physics, Philosophy and the World tonight for pattern on the cover. Then I also have a couple of somewhat long library books that I need to start.

I finished 10th Anniversary and have slotted it for the city prompt, which gives us another piece of the Business outfit. I let the outstanding prompts guide the choice of my next book. I'm reading Death by Bubble Tea with someone on the cover wearing a white button shirt which I think qualifies for business clothes.
@LYNN - I can't quite remember what Mr. Knightley did but how you explain it, it sounds good to me!
Good Afternoon Everyone, I have dedicated myself to listening to Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. The men on the cover are in business attire for that time period. I have 20 hours left but will keep at it till completed. On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeousis on the back burner for today & tomorrow. We are doing great.

I read 123 pages to finish off The Winners, but it's currently almost 2 am so I'll have to add it to the spreadsheet tomorrow. If anyone else wants to in the meantime, feel free to add it wherever it best fits!

That's fantastic Rachel! I added your pages and moved Winners to completed. I swapped Sherri's Devotions with Rachel's Winners which lets us complete formal.
Just Business and Party left to go and I think we've got good options to fill everything needed. Then onto round two!
Well done team!!
Good Morning, Team! We are at the halfway point (already!??!) Team Chanel, you are amazing! All we have left to complete round 1:
Business
Pants: A book with someone in business clothes on the cover
Party
Purse: A book with a cover that has at least 4 colors
I had finished Death by Bubble Tea which I strategically put in the holiday slot instead of the business clothes prompt bc there were less options for it. I can move if needed.
Today I plan to continue listening to The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida which is not to be rushed. And I've started reading Three Act Tragedy by Agatha Christie.
Happy reading!
JennH wrote: "@LYNN - I can't quite remember what Mr. Knightley did but how you explain it, it sounds good to me!"That's all the confirmation I need! LOL
We just completed PARTY!! I counted An[book:Good RiddanceGood Riddancegel & Hannah: A Novel in Verse|55120627] as a book with at least 4 colors on the cover! BTW, this was a good one for prompting conversation/discussion at book club.I have The Reluctant Fundamentalist to document yet and then I've started Second House from the Corner and Good Riddance. I'm so happy that I'll evidently get through the books I had specifically selected for this week and then add more! :) (I love being retired!) :)
I did use 2 undergarments to complete PARTY! Since we have 11 undergarments already!! YAY US!
Keep on keepin' on, Team Chanel!!
I was going to post that I would begin looking for a book with a business-dressed person on the cover, but then see there are 5 possibilities listed on the planning sheet and...then I noticed Sherri is planning to read Less Is Lost and now I'm jealous! I will be very anxious to see what you think of that one!

We are doing great! I'm much less than half done on both of my current books so just working on undergarments. Hope to finish by the weekend.

Great reading team! I made a note about Team of Rivals in the business slot and started us off on round two.
Jen K wrote: "We are doing great! I'm much less than half done on both of my current books so just working on undergarments. Hope to finish by the weekend."Excellent!
I counted The Reluctant Fundamentalist for the second Business Closet by fulfilling the white-collar professional prompt. What a thought-provoking read. I'm trying to avoid a book hangover!

Hi everyone!! I'm Irene and I am belatedly joining this team after I missed signups but I'm super excited to be here!! I'm adding my pages and books to the spreadsheet right now but I'm so impressed by how close this team already is to having one of every look! 😄

Thanks Sheena and Jenn! :D Would y'all consider a book with a shirtless guy with a suit jacket on the cover "A book with someone in business clothes on the cover"? xD
like this:

I ended up reading all of El Deafo today since I needed something a little lighter after The Winners. I'm never quite clear on whether graphic novels like this count for readathons!I also got 62 pages into Chain of Gold. I was a bit nervous to pick up another long book after just finishing one, but this one is such as difference in tone/pacing (not to mention font size).
Thanks Lynn!I finished Double Indemnity by James M. Cain and put it under a short book, but please feel free to move it around to wherever it's needed (book set in the city, black/white/grey cover, white collar work, etc).
Morning Team ;) I woke early and cannot get back to sleep so going to read a bit before starting my day. I *though* about emptying the dishwasher, etc but would just hate to wake my sleeping family ;) ;)
@Rachel I believe it's 200 pages to count as a prompt fill for a graphic novel or poetry (see FAQ in individual sign up, I assume this would apply to team as well? ) but you can count as pages (underwear) if shorter.
Will update the sheet and see where we're at in a bit.
Good Morning All, Welcome Irene. I hope to finish Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln this morning. I have 5 hours left. Thank You Team Chanel for being patient with me while I listen to this long book. My next read will be Less Is Lost.

That's great Sherri! You're racking up the undergarment points which will be so important in checking off our next wardrobes. I've been listening to super short audio lately so we balance each other out ;)

Good Morning Team,Welcome, Irene! Happy to have you reading with us!
I finished up The Resisters last night. Still sorting out my feelings on that - dystopian novels can be very thought provoking. I used it to fill in science-fiction for round 2, but of course we can shuffle things around. Now I’ve started on Blackmail and Bibingka. Definitely a lighter read than the last two!
@Sherri - I applaud anyone taking on long dense history books, especially on audio. Also interested in what you think of Less Is Lost. I just read Less last year.
Good Morning, Team Chanel! You rock! We're already closing in on a second Casual outfit. @Irene - Soooo technically he is in business clothes, as a suit jacket counts. I mean, it doesn't say anywhere that it has to be a complete outfit....
@Rachel - I really enjoyed the Chain of Gold, as I did most of the Shadowhunter Chronicles series. And yep, what Sheena said, graphic novels (and poetry) need to be 200 pages.
@Sheena - You're just being really considerate and loving. ;)
@Sherri - You're almost there!
I'm aiming to finish The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida today and I have a couple of shorter audiobooks on queue.
I've also started reading Lemon Larceny, shooting for the food/drink prompt which doesn't have much options. Oddly enough, though culinary mysteries are my main reads most of the time, I actually didn't have any lined up for the readathon which would have covered this prompt easily.
Sheena wrote: "Morning Team ;) I woke early and cannot get back to sleep so going to read a bit before starting my day. I *though* about emptying the dishwasher, etc but would just hate to wake my sleeping famil..."
In that case, this one is safe since it is over 200! It's 233 pages
I finished Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln I put it on the spreadsheet. I have an errand to run when I come back I'll put it everywhere else. Whoop Whoop.

Many interruptions/other tasks today and last night. I did document Second House from the Corner by Sadeqa Johnson finally and will return to document Good Riddance when I get a chance. We now have two casual closets completed and 2 more undergarments to use!!
Great work!!
oh me too, Lynn!! crazy day at work, impromptu trip to the mall with my girl. Just non-stop "go" from 5am til now (almost 9pm) but settled in at home now with a beer & a book. I think the rest of the adulting can wait till tomorrow ;)

I only ended up reading 80 pages today of Chain of Gold. I woke up late, and my brother and his wife came over for dinner, so in the time in between, my brain went into that annoying "waiting mode" where I couldn't settle into anything since I knew I'd have to put it down soonish. Really wish I'd have read more since I'm loving the character dynamics! Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much more reading I'll be able to do this week. Tomorrow I'm back at work for a full day so I'll only be able to read in the evening. Saturday I have a work project that takes up pretty much the whole day (but at least I'll listen to an audiobook while I do it). I was planning to read so much more of this one this week!
Sounds like you all had a busy day!I did manage to finish The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida and I slotted it for the 300-400 page prompt since that had the least options. I've penciled in two short audiobooks, Rogue Protocol which can fit in the black, white and gray only prompt and Swing which can go for the 400+ page prompt, if no one else fulfills them first.
I've also started The Underground Railroad bc I have book club on Monday and I need to get on it. 4 days is more than enough time for me to read it but you never know...
Good Morning, my plan today is to read Less Is Lost. I started it yesterday afternoon & I like it so far. Good luck everyone with your plans today.

Morning :DI'm going to finish The Man Who Died Twice today and pick at least one more book to finish for the challenge. I'll have a look and see what's useful before I decide.
I might try for one more audio book too, if I can find something.
Just work today, and then night at home. We've got a full day of rock climbing planned on Saturday so I won't get much reading done/be able to check in much, and then back to the books on Sunday. Off to see what my library has for audio ...
Good morning, Team! I finished 2 more books, Animal Farm and Rogue Protocol, which I put in for 4+ colors and black, white & gray cover prompts, respectively.I'm starting Swing next. It's deceivingly 400+ pages but it's poetry so will be a pretty short audiobook in reality.
@Sheena - Wow, rock climbing, that's sound amazing and loads of fun... and terrifying!
Rachel wrote: "I only ended up reading 80 pages today of Chain of Gold. I woke up late, and my brother and his wife came over for dinner, so in the time in between, my brain went into that annoyin..."You can only fit in as much reading as is possible! 80 pages is a lot!
Sheena wrote: "Morning :DI'm going to finish The Man Who Died Twice today and pick at least one more book to finish for the challenge. I'll have a look and see what's useful before I decide."
I just got a copy of that and haven't read it yet. How did you like it? Or did you? ;)
Sheena wrote: "oh me too, Lynn!! crazy day at work, impromptu trip to the mall with my girl. Just non-stop "go" from 5am til now (almost 9pm) but settled in at home now with a beer & a book. I think the rest of t..."Yeah. Adulting isn't all that much fun a lot of the time, is it? ;) Especially because it keeps us from reading!
I used Good Riddance to fulfill the Party humorous book prompt. I used The Red Pony to fulfill the Avant-G.arde not totally chronological prompt. It was not at all what I expected...
I am currently finishing Cross Justice and will fulfill the 400+ page prompt for Formal.
I should finish And Then There Was Me today.
Gotta work out tonight at the gym and have a few errands to run, but tomorrow and Sunday are pretty much free to read!!
@Lynn - You are awesome!Team Chanel, just a snapshot of where we are at for Round 2:
Casual - Complete Outfit!
Business needs to complete the look -
Shirt: A book set in an office workspace (2 possible options in progress)
Shoes: A book set in the city (2 possible options in progress)
Party needs to complete the look -
Formal needs to complete the look -
Evening Gown: A book where a major character is royalty or nobility
High Heels: A book featuring a fancy event (wedding, funeral, coronation, graduation, etc.)
Avant-Garde needs to complete the look -
Wig: A book by an author you've never read (5 possible options in progress)
Sorry, work has been crazy. I should be able to finish Mercury Pictures Presents tonight which works for Shirt, Shoes, High Heels (movie premiere), necklace and wig if there are any preferences.

My goal is to finish Less is Lost tonight. That works for business attire on the cover. Hopefully I can stay awake long enough to finish.

Hi all!I used the book I finished this morning to complete our second party look (a book that features a holiday) but as always, please feel free to move it around as needed!
I just started a book that fits evening gown (royal character) and gloves (fancy font) and possibly high heels (fancy event), so hopefully I'll finish that either later today or early tomorrow.
I finished Less Is Lost. I really liked it. I basically read it in one day. I think I liked it better than Less. I used it for business, a book with someone dressed in business attire on the cover.

Calling it quits for tonight. I plan to finish The Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose tomorrow and it looks as if I may have to start a third round on a closet with it. Not sure what will be next. I'll have to check my books to see what I might have for some of these tougher prompts yet to fulfill round 2. Can't believe we have now completed Round 2 for casual and party!
Sherri wrote: "I finished Less Is Lost. I really liked it. I basically read it in one day. I think I liked it better than Less. I used it for business, a book with someone dressed in business atti..."Ooohhh. Now I really am looking forward to reading that one!
123 pages today, but still less than halfway through Chain of Gold. If I'm lucky, I'll have time to read at least some of it tomorrow, but either way I'm planning to spend most of my day with an audiobook tomorrow while I work.

I just used Emma to fulfill Tie in the Business Closet! (Tie: A book with a main character who is a white-collar professional (doctor, lawyer, architect, executive, etc.) It seemed this might be a difficult one to fulfill. Though always feel free to switch any of mine to another qualifying prompt if needed. :)
Although it is never depicted exactly what career/work role Mr. Knightley plays, he is mentioned as a leader of the local area, or, as I understand it, a local politician. He is also landed gentry, owning and operating a very large estate, so I feel as if he qualifies.
This book was entertaining. Those people really needed something to fulfill their lives beyond endless speculative gossip! :)
Finishing up Angel & Hannah: A Novel in Verse for tonight's book club meeting. It could fulfill the <200 page prompt. Continuing with The Reluctant Fundamentalist and anxious to move on to others!
