Sara Ysen | 1 comments I don’t remember if this was a standalone novel, a book in a series, or a short story in a compendium of some kind. I didn’t finish the story, which is why I’m trying to find the name of it so I can finish it. I read the introductory portion in middle school in the early 2010s or slightly before, but wasn’t able to finish it before we moved and I never looked for it again for whatever reason.

All I remember was that it had a kind of creepy/light horror vibe to it, and that the main character (I don’t remember the gender), who was a fairly young kid, and I believe had a younger sibling, has been able to see these floating panels of light and color for their entire life. As they got older, they discovered they could kind of manipulate these lights and move them away from themself if they were interfering with their sleep, or if they were just bored and wanted to lazily fidget with the lights.

Eventually, the main character discovered that if they kind of trusted some kind of instinct within, they could fit these light panels together to create a kind of portal to another dimension or realm or whatever.

I vaguely recollect some kind of creepy intelligent creature (it could speak and communicate) either coming out of one of these portals or the main character coming in contact with the creature upon going through the portal themselves.
